Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Benny Paul! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cam Everett! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Daniel Franklin and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Everett darts in and clinches Paul up against the cage. Paul has had enough of the clinch but Everett keeps him there for the moment. Paul pulls guard. Paul pulls Everett in close to prevent any damage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Everett trying to control the position from guard on top but Paul is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Everett tries to stand but Paul is controlling from the bottom. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Paul is on top in guard.
Paul stands and steps away. Everett gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Everett displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Paul throws out the jab. Everett closes the distance and clinches. Paul wants to break the clinch but can't.
Paul gets a trip takedown into half guard. Paul throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Paul stops Everett from getting back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Paul stands up from half guard. Everett tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Excellent takedown into side control there by Everett. Paul is breathing heavily. Paul sneaks back into half guard. Paul tries to get to full guard but Everett has control of the leg. Paul wants to get back to his feet.
Everett is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Paul wants to improve his position but Everett is controlling well.
Everett decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Everett doesn't manage to clinch there - Paul circles away.
Paul with a nice cross. Paul with a lazy takedown attempt and Everett moves into the clinch. Everett wants a takedown but no success here.
Paul can't break the clinch.
Paul is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Everett pulls him back up using the underhooks. Paul escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Paul drops a shoulder and throws an uppercut that cracks Everett right on the button. Everett goes down! Paul follows him to the mat and finishes the job with more strikes! Paul gets the win via TKO!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Benny Paul!
