Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shui Kan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shui Kan has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Joe Griffin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kan gets in close and instigates a clinch. Griffin wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Kan. Griffin is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Kan gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Kan with a knee to the head.
Kan goes for a takedown attempt but Griffin pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Griffin changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kan tries to avoid it but Griffin manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kan to the ground. Kan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Griffin closes the distance but Kan moves to the side and Kan counters with a head kick. Kan scores a takedown into full mount! Kan is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Griffin can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

That's one minute gone in the round. Kan tries to control but Griffin wriggling away. Kan is stalling here but it's allowed Griffin to get half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Griffin blocking the ground and pound attempt from Kan. Kan is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Griffin is just riding it out for now. Kan eventually gives up the hold. Griffin wants to get back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Griffin takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Kan keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joe Griffin. That's going to take a lot out of him. Griffin doesn't succeed with the takedown and Kan holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Kan lands an elbow inside that Griffin shrugs off. Knees in the clinch landing for Kan.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Kan takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. Kan is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.

Griffin goes for a takedown attempt but Kan pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Kan gets a clinch. Griffin has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Kan is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. A knee to the head by Kan.

Kan breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Kan fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Griffin, pushing him back against the cage. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Kan putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Griffin in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body. Kan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Joe Griffin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Kan closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Griffin did well to prevent Kan getting side control. Kan decides to return to a standing position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Shui Kan dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Griffin takes an elbow to the temple. Griffin tries to pull guard but Kan won't allow it.

Kan lands a nice knee to the body. Kan unloads a knee to the mid-section. Kan breaks the clinch.
Griffin misses with a takedown so Kan counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Kan is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Kan in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kan wants to control from the top but Griffin keeps moving. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Kan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Kan is looking to stand up but Griffin won't let him. Kan has gone for a leg lock! Griffin slips out almost immediately though and dives into Kan's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Griffin won't allow Kan to get back to his feet. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Griffin accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Griffin throws a strike but Kan rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Griffin keeping moving, preventing Kan from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kan wants to stand but Griffin is controlling his posture from full guard. Kan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Griffin swivels though and keeps the full guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kan accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Griffin has his foot on Kan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kan works his way back into a safe position though. Kanis looking to pass into half guard but Griffin pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Griffin is in guard. Griffin distracts Kan with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Griffin throws and elbow that misses. Kan uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Griffin's guard. Nice move by Kan! Griffin isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Kan stacks Griffin on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Kan! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Shui Kan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
Griffin has his takedown stuffed and Kan counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Kan shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Griffin as he jumps to the side. Griffin closes the distance but Kan moves to the side and Kan counters with a solid body kick. Kan lands a head kick!
Griffin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kan's waist but Kan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Griffin off to one side. Kan moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Griffin closes the distance but Kan moves to the side and Kan decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Griffin's guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Kan decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Griffin takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Excellent takedown into side control there by Kan. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Kan stands up and we're back to a striking position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kan lands a head kick. Griffin smiles back at him and beckons him forward. Griffin moves into range and clinches up with Kan. Kan has Griffin pressed against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Kan creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Griffin's defenses. Kan drops down looking for an ankle pick but Griffin pulls his leg out and moves away.
Kan has been the more effective fighter overall so far. A low kick from Griffin misses and Kan counters into the clinch. Nicely done. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Kan looking to stall.
Kan has Griffin pressed against the cage, preventing Griffin from circling away and getting back to striking at range. A knee to the head by Kan.
Griffin wants the takedown. Kan is fighting it off but Griffin persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Kan's guard against the cage. Kan wants to stand and escape but Griffin is having none of it. Kan preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Griffin prevents Kan from getting back to his feet. Griffin landing with the ground and pound. Griffin missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kan is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Griffin is controlling him. Kan controls Griffin momentarily but Griffin frees himself. Griffin throws and elbow that misses. Kan uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Griffin's guard. Nice move by Kan! Kan tries to free his leg and advance position but Griffin is retaining full guard. Shui Kan is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Kan fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Griffin manages to avoid it. Griffin throws a lazy head kick and Kan counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Kan. Kan is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Griffin pulls him back up using the underhooks.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Kan landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.

Kan jumps into guard, dragging Griffin to the mat.
Griffin trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Griffin prevents Kan from getting back to his feet. Joe Griffin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Shui Kan has got the better of the ground game so far. Kan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Griffin can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Kan working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Griffin. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Griffin is looking to work some ground and pound but Kan has wrist control. Kan not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
And that's the end of the fight! Shui Kan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Kan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
