Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Victor Belfort (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rampage Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rua has chosen Because I got High as his entrance music. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Victor Belfort!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rampage Rua!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Leandro Rodrigues and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rua misses with a head kick.
Belfort looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Belfort closes this distance looking for a takedown but Rua circles away.
Rua tries to clinch up.

Rua closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Rua wants to lay and pray for a moment but Belfort keeps working.

Rua thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Rua has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Belfort!
Rua tries to control but Belfort wriggling away.

Rua looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
A nice elbow there by Rua.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rua looking to control but Belfort is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Belfort takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Rua tries to control but Belfort wriggling away.
Rua controlling from mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Rua moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Belfort has worked his arm free - good work by Belfort!

Rua tries to move into full mount but can't pass Belfort's legs.
Belfort is trying to control Rua's posture but Rua avoids it.
Belfort is not content to let Rua control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Belfort is looking to regain half guard here but Rua keeps moving and retains side control.
Rua lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Rua trying to control the action but Belfort is working from the bottom.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Rua shoots in and bounces Belfort off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Rua trying to control the position from guard on top but Belfort is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Belfort is looking to stand up but Rua isn't so interested in that idea.
Rua working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Belfort's head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rua wanted to stand there but Belfort had control of the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Belfort wants to stand but Rua is controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rampage Rua dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Rua throws a sloppy head kick and Belfort moves out of range easily.
Belfort wants to clinch up but Rua keeps it at a distance.

Rua changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Belfort looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rua controlling the position.
Rua is looking to take a break and control but Belfort is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Rua is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Belfort is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rua tries to move into full mount but can't pass Belfort's legs.

Rua thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Belfort is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Rua's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Belfort actively working from the bottom here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Rua closes the distance and clinches.
Rua looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Rua just misses with a elbow thrown towards Belfort's brow.

Rua has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Belfort uses from the top position.
Belfort stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rua swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Belfort wants to stand but Rua has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Rua has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rua looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Belfort stands up from Rua's guard - Belfort perhaps looking for a knockout.
Rua dodges the punch combination from Belfort.

and Belfort moves into the clinch.
Rua taking a breather.
Rua scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Rua wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Rua has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Belfort regains guard immediately.

Rua stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Belfort has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Rua manages to get his head free but now Belfort has transitioned to an armbar! Rua grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Belfort! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:03 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Victor Belfort!
