The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Machida shoots for a double leg takedown but Heijari sprawls well. He's pushed Machida's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Machida circles away from the clinch attempt.
Machida avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Heijari wants to clinch up but Machida keeps it at a distance.
Heijari tries to clinch but Machida is having none of it.
Heijari leaves Machida with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Heijari connects with a nice looking jab.

Arroto Machida seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Heijari has managed to clinch.
Machida changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Heijari fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Snagari Heijari has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Arroto Machida.
Machida looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Heijari tries to clinch but Machida is having none of it.
Machida changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Heijari tries to avoid it but Machida manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Heijari to the ground. Heijari escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Machida stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Heijari.
Machida looks gassed!

Heijari lands an uppercut.
Heijari tries to land knees in the clinch but Machida avoids the damage to the body.

Heijari escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Heijari dances in with a quick combination. Machida is being worked over with jabs and crosses. Oooh, a right straight from Heijari snaps Machida's head back. Machida stumbles backwards against the cage. Heijari steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with Machida's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. Machida just didn't come prepared.
