PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Maine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stereotypical Otaku (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maine comes into the arena with 99 Problems blaring out of the sound system. Otaku comes into a darkened arena with his song building. ANIME!? kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carlos Maine!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Stereotypical Otaku!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Daniel Cesar and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maine takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Otaku scores with a hook.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Maine.
Maine throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Maine drives through with a takedown into guard.
Maine stopping the sweep attempt from Otaku.
Maine trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Maine missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Otaku is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Maine throws a big right hand that misses.
Otaku wants to sweep but no luck.

Maine looking to sit in guard and control but Otaku gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Maine is looking to work some ground and pound but Otaku has wrist control.

Maine is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Otaku slips a jab and a cross from Maine.
Otaku throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A punch combination from Maine misses.
Otaku thows a body shot but no joy.
Otaku slips under a jab.
Maine tries to close the distance and clinch up but Otaku swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Otaku misses with a looping right.
Otaku takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Maine shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Otaku sprawls well. Otaku wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Maine gets slowly back to his feet.
Otaku fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Maine manages to avoid it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Maine misses with a body shot.
Otaku lands a jab to the head.
Maine throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Otaku throws a looping overhand right but Maine ducks down to avoid it.
Maine fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carlos Maine. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Maine shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Maine has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Otaku not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Maine throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Otaku works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Otaku is trying to control the position but Maine postures up.

Maine shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Otaku pinned against the cage. Otaku gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Maine blocks a jab.
Maine throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Maine tries for a takedown but Otaku sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Maine finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Maine pushes Otaku up against the ropes in a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Maine throws a head punch that misses.
Maine's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Maine breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Carlos Maine is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Otaku misses with an uppercut.

Maine tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Otaku gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Maine.
Otaku swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Maine loads up on a big right hand but Otaku slips the punch.
Maine misses with a low kick.
Maine throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Otaku.
A jab from Maine misses.
Maine pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Otaku throws the left hand but Maine avoids the punch easily.

Otaku throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Maine looks for the body kick but Otaku saw that one coming.
Maine just misses with a punch to the body.
Otaku is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Stereotypical Otaku is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Maine dodges the punch combination from Otaku.
The fighters circling - Otaku throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

and Otaku counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Otaku tries to bum rush Maine with a series of wild strikes but Maine uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Maine throws a jab but it's blocked by Otaku.

Maine moves into the clinch.
Maine is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the ropes.

Maine breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A punch lands to the side of Maine 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Maine walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Otaku lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

Maine shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Otaku manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Otaku can't keep his opponent in guard - Maine advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Maine sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Otaku defending well though.
Maine is looking to take a break and control but Otaku is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Maine missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Otaku keeping control of the position.
Otaku wants to control but Maine is keeping busy.
Otaku is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Maine jumps into side control!
Otaku manages to work his way to half guard, despite Maine's best efforts.
Otaku is trying to get back to full guard.
Maine working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Otaku moves out of range of the leg kick from Maine.
Otaku dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Maine gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Otaku counters with a right hand to the body.
Otaku misses with a looping left.
Maine tries to clinch but Otaku moves out of range.
Otaku swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Otaku uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Maine.
Otaku is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Maine gets a clinch.
Maine tries to land knees in the clinch but Otaku avoids the damage to the body.
A head punch on the inside from Maine fails to land.
Otaku misses with a punch on the inside.
Maine misses with an elbow strike.

Maine breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Maine staying out of range there.
Otaku throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Otaku takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Otaku lands a two punch combo.
Maine misses the shot to the body.
Maine is looking to wear down Otaku with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Maine throws a head kick that half lands.
Otaku connects with a single shot there.
Otaku throws a looping overhand right but Maine ducks down to avoid it.
Otaku slips under a jab.
Otaku avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Otaku takes a swing at Maine's ribcage but misses.
Otaku throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Otaku fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Maine looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Otaku swats away the attempt to clinch by Maine.
Maine moves out of range of the strikes.
Maine fails with the takedown.
Maine throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Carlos Maine is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Maine fails with an attempt to clinch.

Maine shoots in and bounces Otaku off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard.
Maine trying to control but Otaku is working from the bottom.

Otaku has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Maine can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Stereotypical Otaku has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Maine sitting in guard here, content to control.
Otaku keeping moving, preventing Maine from controlling successfully.
Maine controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Maine advances position into side control!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Maine in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Maine lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Otaku is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Maine tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

And that's the end of the fight!
Carlos Maine showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Maine has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
