Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James McFist! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mike Gravel! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Leandro Rodrigues and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McFist circles away from the clinch attempt.
Gravel misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Gravel scores with a crisp jab that stopped McFist in his tracks. Gravel motions for McFist to come forward. Gravel throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. McFist gets caught flat footed, as Gravel shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. McFist is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. McFist avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. McFist tries to land a sweep but no joy. Gravel gets to his feet - McFist follows without any prompting. Gravel scores a takedown into full mount! McFist in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. McFist tries to lock up and control but Gravel gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Gravel working for a guillotine from mount but McFist is in no mood to give up. Gravel tries to control but McFist wriggling away.
That's one minute gone in the round. McFist keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Gravel can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as McFist is looking to escape. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. McFist is looking to improve his position but Gravel isn't that keen on the idea. McFist is breathing heavily. McFist sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Gravel decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. McFist misses with a takedown attempt and Gravel counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Gravel stands up from half guard. Gravel shoots and misses and McFist counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by McFist. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. McFist postures up.
McFist stays in close to Gravel's body and controls the position. Gravel not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gravel throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Gravel had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. McFist is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Gravel Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take McFist's back instead. McFist controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position. Gravel misses with a punch to the head. Gravel gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes. McFist tries to break free.
Gravel working for the choke. Will Gravel go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
That's three minutes gone in the round. McFist is in bad spot here.
Gravel tightening his grip on McFist, looking for the choke. Gravel lands a shot to the body. McFist defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Gravel's arms. Gravel has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, McFist has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Gravel.
McFist tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! McFist in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Gravel lands a nice shot to the head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McFist slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. McFist has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Gravel. Oh but McFist has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Gravel goes limp - he's gone! McFist jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). James McFist!
