Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shane Carwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joey Cervoni (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shane Carwin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joey Cervoni! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Chris Downing and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Carwin tries to clinch but Cervoni moves out of range. Carwin looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Carwin throws the left hand but Cervoni avoids the punch easily. Carwin throws a big shot that misses. Cervoni circles away from the clinch attempt.
Carwin tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Cervoni paws at him with a jab and circles away. Carwin tries to clinch up. Nice straight punches there by Cervoni. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Cervoni. Cervoni closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Cervoni lands in his opponent's guard. Cervoni advances to half guard. Cervoni stalling. Cervoni trying to mount his opponent but Carwin defends it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cervoni is looking to take a break and control but Carwin is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Cervoni sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Carwin defending well though. Carwin is trying to stand.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Cervoni darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Cervoni missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Cervoni is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Carwin is just riding it out for now. Cervoni eventually gives up the hold. Carwin has hold of Cervoni's hands but Cervoni slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Cervoni lands a nice short elbow. Carwin is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Cervoni scores with a couple of nice shots. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Cervoni has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Cervoni landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Cervoni stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. Cervoni displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Nice body punch from Cervoni.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cervoni ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Nice uppercut lands for Cervoni. That snapped Carwin's head back.
Cervoni looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Carwin! Cervoni lands a heavy elbow. The referee warns Carwin that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Joey Cervoni dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Cervoni moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Cervoni lands a nice hook to Carwin's body. Carwin takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Cervoni shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Cervoni is keen to just control but Carwin is a slippery customer. Cervoni takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Cervoni is nestled in close to Carwin, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Cervoni seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Carwin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. It looks like Shane Carwin has been cut. Cervoni shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Cervoni stops Carwin from standing up. Cervoni gets to his feet - Carwin follows without any prompting. Cervoni throws a combination. Carwin tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Cervoni shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Carwin manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Cervoni is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Cervoni gets to his feet. Carwin looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Cervoni lands a two punch combo.

Cervoni is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Cervoni lands with a punch from half guard. Carwin might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Cervoni seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Carwin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Carwin wants to control but Cervoni is keeping busy and won't allow it. Cervoni trying to control the action but Carwin is working from the bottom. Joey Cervoni has got the better of the ground game so far.

The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Carwin with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Cervoni throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Cervoni decides to return to a standing position. Cervoni scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Cervoni lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Carwin gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Cervoni feints and as Carwin raises his hands in defense, Cervoni changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Cervoni is looking to work some ground and pound but Carwin has wrist control. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Cervoni lands a couple of digs.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carwin wants to stand up but Cervoni is controlling him. Cervoni pushes down on Carwin's leg and manages to get into half guard. Cervoni works his way into full mount! Carwin is bucking up trying to escape but Cervoni cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Shane Carwin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Cervoni postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Carwin looks a forlorn figure.

Shane Carwin's cut is getting worse. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Cervoni with a couple of short strikes. Cervoni content just to control the position here. Cervoni looking for a guillotine from mount but Carwin is having none of it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cervoni looking to finish Carwin with some ground and pound. This is bad for Carwin! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cervoni with the ground and pound from mount. Cervoni landing strikes from the mount and Carwin is in trouble! The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Cervoni cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Shane Carwin's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it. Cervoni lands a big shot there that rocks Carwin but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Cervoni is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Carwin has managed to escape the submission attempt.
