Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jacques St Croix! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, CJ Riley! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Thiago Cunha and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A punch combination from Riley misses. St Croix uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Riley.
Riley throws a combination but it was largely blocked by St Croix. Riley lands a nice leg kick that just misses St Croix's sensitive parts. Riley tries a low kick but St Croix avoids it.
That's one minute gone in the round. St Croix checks a leg kick. Riley misses with a straight left. St Croix throws a nice outside leg kick. St Croix tries to close the distance and clinch up but Riley swats him away and circles back towards the center.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Riley slips a jab and a cross from St Croix.
Riley looks to score with a jab to the body but St Croix is just out of range. A low kick from St Croix is predictable there and Riley counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps St Croix thinking. Riley misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Riley thows a left - swing and a miss! St Croix misses with a body kick. Riley lands a really nice looking cross but St Croix seems unphased.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. St Croix takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Riley missing with a left hand there. St Croix was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Riley misses with a leg kick and St Croix counters by moving into the clinch. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Riley tries to break free but St Croix pushes him back against the cage. Riley on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

St Croix lands a lovely overhand right. St Croix throws a big shot that misses. Oooh a lovely combination from Riley sends St Croix down but not out. Riley dives into side control looking to finish.
It looks like Jacques St Croix has been cut. Riley swings around for an armbar but St Croix sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Riley's guard. St Croix has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Riley working a defensive guard here.

St Croix works his way back into a safe position though. Riley has a closed guard, preventing St Croix from standing up. Riley escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. St Croix gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. St Croix gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. St Croix throws the kick towards the body but Riley avoids it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Riley closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Riley lands in his opponent's guard. Rileyis looking to pass into half guard but St Croix pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now St Croix is in guard. Riley throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Riley takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards. St Croix moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. St Croix tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Riley paws at him with a jab and circles away. Riley shoots and misses and St Croix counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
CJ Riley showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Jacques St Croix's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. St Croix tries to bum rush Riley with a series of wild strikes but Riley uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

St Croix tries to kick Riley off but Riley keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Riley thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
That's four minutes gone in the round. St Croix regains full guard. Nicely done. Riley drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and St Croix dives on top into guard. Riley trying to keep a closed guard but St Croix is proving a slippery customer.
Riley escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. St Croix gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. He'll be looking to tighten that up but St Croix can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Riley tests St Croix's chin there with a solid looking shot. Riley misses with a takedown and St Croix counters with a left to the body.
That's three minutes gone in the round. St Croix misses with the body kick and Riley counters with a lovely straight right hand! A punch combination from Riley misses. St Croix misses with a series of wild punches.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Riley shoots in but St Croix avoids the takedown attempt easily. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! St Croix looking to land some kicks to the body here.

Riley looks to throw a body kick and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. St Croix moves out of range as Riley throws a body kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Nice takedown defense from St Croix. No joy for Riley on that attempt. Riley jabbing away but nothing is landing. CJ Riley seems to be getting the better of the standup. Riley with a poor takedown and St Croix counters with a lovely straight right hand! CJ Riley is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Jacques St Croix is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's three minutes gone in the round. St Croix tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Riley throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and St Croix counters with a series of strikes. Riley will be more careful next time no doubt. Riley misses with a takedown enabling St Croix to counter with a crisp jab. Jacques St Croix has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of CJ Riley.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. St Croix keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
