Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Luiz Rangel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Santos Borreco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Borreco has chosen "Gladiator" by Common as his entrance music. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Luiz Rangel! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Santos Borreco! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Emerson Jorge and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rangel lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Borreco circles away quickly and effectively. Rangel lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Rangel decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Rangel with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Rangel tries to stand but his arm is trapped. Rangel is keen to just control but Borreco is a slippery customer. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rangel in particular looking to stall. Rangel trying to pass the guard but Borreco defending well. Rangel controlling the pace.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rangel thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Borreco makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Borreco. Borreco has his foot on Rangel's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rangel works his way back into a safe position though. Rangel sitting in guard, not really doing much. Rangel knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Borreco on the ground. Borreco working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Rangel. Borreco has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rangel can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rangel connects with a couple of short punches. Rangel is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Borreco is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rangel defends well. Borreco looks gassed! Borreco throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rangel's corner is telling him to maintain position. Rangel makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Rangel decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Borreco, up you get! Rangel thows a body shot but no joy.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rangel misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Rangel lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
A head kick misses from Rangel. Borreco chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Rangel can pounce on him.
Borreco doesn't manage to clinch there - Rangel circles away.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Borreco crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Rangel - the referee stops the clock and Borreco gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Rangel. Borreco manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. Rangel looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Rangel misses with a head kick.
Borreco takes one to the side of the head.
An inside leg kick lands from Rangel. Rangel fakes the leg kick and cracks Borreco in the body. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Luiz Rangel dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
A chopping leg kick lands by Rangel. Rangel drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Rangel in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Rangel sitting in guard, not really doing much. Borreco looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Rangel has picked Borreco up and slammed him! Borreco can't keep hold of the triangle and Rangel manages to pass to side control! Rangel working the ground and pound but Borreco is defending the strikes. A lull in the action here as Rangel stalls from top position. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Borreco sneaks back into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Rangel is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Rangel stalling.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Borreco blocking the ground and pound attempt from Rangel. Rangel is looking to stall here but Borreco recovers full guard. Rangel slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Borreco has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rangel can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rangel showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Rangel keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Borreco's head. Rangel is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Borreco is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Rangel has his hands clasped together but Borreco extends an breaks Rangel's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Borreco.
