PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Festus Riboloni (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yoshihiro Jung (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yoshihiro Jung told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Festus Riboloni!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yoshihiro Jung!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shigeki Sano and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Riboloni tries for a takedown but Jung sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Jung feints and as Riboloni raises his hands in defense, Jung changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Jung wants to control from the top but Riboloni keeps moving.
Jung throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Riboloni is breathing heavily.
Jung distracts Riboloni with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Riboloni avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Riboloni is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Riboloni is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Jung with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Riboloni utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Riboloni is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Jung is aware though and is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
A combination from Riboloni does no damage.

Riboloni takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Horrible takedown by Jung or perhaps it was just good defense by Riboloni which made him look bad.
Jung should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Jung shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Riboloni's guard.
Jung must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Jung drops back, looking for a kneebar! Riboloni looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Riboloni looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Riboloni!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

so Jung counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yoshihiro Jung dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

and Jung counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Riboloni's guard now.
Jung stands up over Riboloni, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Jung sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Riboloni's guard.
Jung is thwarting Riboloni's attempts to control the position.
Jung thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Riboloni to regain full guard.

Jung is looking to work some ground and pound but Riboloni has wrist control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Riboloni is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jung can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Riboloni tries to bum rush Jung with a series of wild strikes but Jung uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Jung throws a right hand that Riboloni ducks under and follows up with a left that Riboloni also avoids with ease.
Festus Riboloni is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jung drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Riboloni dives on top into guard.

Jung wriggles free and stands up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yoshihiro Jung showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


A right-left combo lands from Riboloni.
Jung lands a nice shot that snaps Riboloni's head back.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Jung drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Jung thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Riboloni's head.

Riboloni moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Riboloni got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jung has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Riboloni has managed to get both his arms back between Jung's legs - danger averted.

Well Jung has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
