Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gian Matteo Ranzi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Mason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gian Matteo Ranzi could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Mark Mason's chin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ranzi tries to keep at a distance but Mason has taken the fight into the clinch. Mason tries to break free but Ranzi pushes him back against the cage. Mason pressing his opponent against the cage. Mason receives a warning from the referee for stalling. Mason misses with some punches.
Mason will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Ranzi up against the cage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ranzi jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Mason walks away with a smile on his face. Ranzi gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Mason shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Mason showed some decent athleticism there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ranzi blocking the ground and pound attempt from Mason. Ranzi is looking for a sweep. Mason is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Mason is taking a breather. Ranzi says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ranzi won't allow Mason to pass to mount. Mason with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Ranzi is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mason pulls his head out easily. Mason wants to take a breather but Ranzi is having none of it. Ranzi moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Ranzi is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Mason is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Ranzi looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Ranzi is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Mason slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Ranzi has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Mason is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Ranzi. Ranzi is being controlled here.

Ranzi looks to move to half guard but instead Mason has passed into mount! Damn! Mason looking to control but Ranzi is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Mason content just to control the position here. Ranzi working to try and regain half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Mason content just to control the position here. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Despite being in the dominant position, Mark Mason just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Mason has Ranzi up against the cage in a clinch.

Mason controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Mason got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ranzi has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mason has managed to get both his arms back between Ranzi's legs - danger averted.

Mason's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Ranzi working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Mason has passed into half guard!

Ranzi is looking to reverse the position. Ranzi is trying to work for a sweep but Mason has mounted him! Mason takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Ranzi slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mason takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Mason looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Let's hope that Mason has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Mason throws a head punch that misses. Mason presses Ranzi against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot. The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Mason takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mark Mason showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
