Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Jean Du Pont! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Peter Qura! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Dillan Fox and Ian Loll.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Du Pont leaves Qura with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Du Pont stuffs the takedown. Du Pont shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Qura defends it nicely. Du Pont throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Qura was covering up waiting for the punch and Du Pont finishes the takedown easily into guard. Du Pont trying to control but Qura is working from the bottom. Qura is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Du Pont postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Du Pont is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Du Pont postures up in Qura's guard and throws a big left but Qura blocks it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Qura looking for a sweep. Not yet Qura, not yet. Du Pont throws a big right hand that misses. Qura working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Du Pont doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Du Pont manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Du Pont got a little sloppy there for a moment and Qura has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Du Pont has managed to get both his arms back between Qura's legs - danger averted. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Du Pont wants to get up but he can't break Qura's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Qura keeping full guard, as Du Pont tries to pass.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Du Pont trying to control the position from guard on top but Qura is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Qura has his feet on Du Pont's thighs here. He's pushed Du Pont off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Du Pont screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
