PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Amadeo Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Zarate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Amadeo Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Daniel Zarate!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, George Francis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Zarate instigates a clinch.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Diaz.
Zarate keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Diaz's efforts to push away.
Diaz really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Zarate tries to circle away but Diaz has him pinned against the cage.
Zarate connects with a knee to the head.
A body shot lands from Zarate.
Zarate unloads a knee to the mid-section. Diaz lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Diaz is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Diaz gets control of Zarate's arms and successfully pulls guard. Diaz will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

and Diaz decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Zarate's guard.

Zarate is working an open guard so Diaz takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

so Diaz counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Zarate wants to stand and escape but Diaz is having none of it.
Diaz lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Diaz connects with a couple of short punches.
Diaz slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Diaz wants to pass the guard but Zarate is keeping the position.
Diaz has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Diaz has a takedown stuffed.
Zarate defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Diaz.
Diaz throws a series of punches but Zarate avoids them all with ease.

Zarate closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Zarate lands in his opponent's guard.

Diaz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Zarate defends it easily.
Zarate would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Zarate stands up and waves to Diaz to follow him.

and Diaz counters with a single leg into guard. Zarate didn't expect that.

Diaz pushing down on Zarate's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Zarate tries to kick Diaz off but Diaz keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Diaz decides to stand up.
Diaz scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

Diaz closes the distance and pushes Zarate back into the cage.
Zarate looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Zarate tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Diaz's elbow.

Zarate pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Zarate as he jumps to the side.

and Diaz counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Diaz.
Diaz pushes down on Zarate's leg and manages to get into half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Diaz takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Diaz's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Zarate is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Diaz has just dragged him back down to the mat.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
The fight stays on the outside here - Diaz looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

and Diaz decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Zarate's guard.

Diaz closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Diaz lands in his opponent's guard.
Diaz throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Zarate works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Zarate wants to stand and escape but Diaz is having none of it.

Zarate is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Diaz is controlling him.

Diaz gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Daniel Zarate seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Diaz shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Zarate's guard.
Diaz won't allow Zarate to get back to his feet.

Diaz wants to pass the guard but Zarate is keeping the position.
Zarate keeping moving, preventing Diaz from controlling successfully.
Zarate is looking to stand up but Diaz isn't so interested in that idea.
Diaz seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Amadeo Diaz showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Diaz, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
