PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ma Ma (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stone Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walker is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Gonna Fly Now. Stone Walker is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ma Ma!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Stone Walker!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Emerson Jorge and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Walker throws a sloppy head kick and Ma moves out of range easily.
Walker throws a nice looking combination but Ma bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Ma changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Walker tries to avoid it but Ma manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Walker to the ground. Walker escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Walker throws a series of punches but Ma moves out of range.
Walker throws the left hand but Ma avoids the punch easily.
Ma throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Walker's waist but Walker gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ma off to one side.

Ma has taken the fight to the clinch.
Ma keeps control of Walker as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Walker can't break the clinch.
A bit of stalling here from Ma.
Walker wants to get back to striking at distance but Ma won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Walker breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Ma walks into a stiff left hand from Walker.
Walker misses with a double jab.
Walker fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Walker wants to clinch

and Ma counters with a single leg into guard. Walker didn't expect that.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Walker is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Ma stands up and waves to Walker to follow him.

Ma gets the takedown into side control.

Ma working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Ma tries to move to mount but Walker blocks the move with his legs.
Walker pushes Ma away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Ma gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Walker looks gassed!

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Ma goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Walker has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Ma but great work by Walker.
Ma tries to bench press Walker off him but Walker keeps the position.
Ma is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Walker asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Walker has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Walker throws a combination that misses
and Ma counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Ma looks for a takedown but Walker sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ma Ma. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nice sprawl there from Walker as Ma shoots in.
Ma is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Walker.
Walker throws a right hand that misses
and Ma counters with a big head kick but Walker shrugs it off.
Walker swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Ma shoots in and bounces Walker off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ma decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Walker, up you get!

Walker drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Ma is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Ma is trying to get back to his feet.
Ma tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Walker decides to stand back up. Walker steps back and let's Ma get back to his feet.

Walker gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Walker pushes Ma off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Ma avoids the body shot from Walker.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Ma shoots in looking for a takedown. Walker tries to sprawl out of it but Ma keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Walker manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Walker has managed to clinch.
The referee calls for Walker to work.
Ma leaning his opponent against the cage.

Ma escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ma takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Walker looks to clinch
and Ma counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Walker is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Walker throws a head kick that misses

and Ma counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Walker!
Ma looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ma Ma dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Walker misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Ma with a lazy takedown attempt

and Walker counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Ma prevents Walker from breaking the clinch.
Ma is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Walker pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Ma tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Walker smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ma Ma. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Walker rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Ma moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Walker misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Walker keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Ma closes the distance and clinches up with Walker, looking for a takedown. Ma pushes Walker against the cage but Walker circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Ma fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Walker falls off balance throwing a combination

and Ma counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Walker is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Ma scores with a couple of nice shots.
Walker is breathing heavily.

Ma decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
A head kick by Ma - that's a beauty! Walker is out but he's somehow still standing... he's going... going... gone. Like a drunk walking down the middle of the road, the inevitable face plant follows and the delayed knockout arrives. Even Ma can't help but laugh at the bizarre end to this one!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:02 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Ma Ma!
