PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between JC Coat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Lucas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lucas has chosen The Diary of Jane as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, JC Coat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Lucas!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Bruno Hogan and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Coat keeps the fight on the outside.
Lucas shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Coat but Coat pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Coat bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Lucas being controlled for a moment.
Coat could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Lucas is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Coat is controlling the pace.
Lucas trying to control but Coat postures up.

Lucas taking some punishment here, with Coat in his half guard.
Lucas wants to get back to his feet.
Coat content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Coat knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lucas on the ground.
Lucas wants to control but Coat is keeping busy.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Coat in particular looking to stall.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee stands the fighters back up. JC Coat just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Lucas closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Lucas lands in his opponent's guard.
Lucas tries to stand but Coat is controlling from the bottom.
Lucas won't allow Coat to get back to his feet.
Coat looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Lucas wants to get up but he can't break Coat's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Coat wants to sweep here but Lucas controlling him for the moment.

Lucas is pushing down on Coat's leg trying to pass to half guard. Coat is fighting to maintain full guard but Lucas has managed to sneak the leg through.

Coat on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Coat tries to get out of the position.

Coat misses with a takedown
and Lucas counters with a solid body kick.

Coat shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Coat showed some decent athleticism there.
Coat prevents Lucas from improving his position.
Lucas is pressing down on Coat's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Coat seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Lucas wants to sweep but no luck.
Lucas can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Coat controls the pace.
Lucas trying to keep a closed guard but Coat is proving a slippery customer.
Lucas looking to hit a scissor sweep but Coat is one step ahead there.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Coat shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Lucas counters with a straight right hand.
Lucas doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Coat counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Lucas's guard now.

Lucas is trying to control the position but Coat postures up.
Coat lands a couple of digs.

Lucas is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Coat is aware though and is defending well.
Coat controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Coat looking to pass the guard.
Coat is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Coat trying to control the position from guard on top but Lucas is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Lucas wants to sweep here but Coat controlling him for the moment.
Coat slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Lucas is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Lucas is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Coat is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Lucas is looking to take a break and control but Coat is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Coat tries to get to full guard but Lucas has control of the leg.
Coat is staying active underneath Lucas, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Lucas prevents Coat from improving his position.

Lucas stands up out of the half guard.

Coat closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Coat tries to pass to full mount but Lucas defends it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

JC Coat dominated that second round.
That's time! Coat's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Lucas is looking to clinch.
John Lucas is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Lucas keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Coat.
Lucas closes this distance looking for a takedown but Coat circles away.
Coat shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Lucas counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Lucas tries to close the distance and clinch but Coat swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Lucas moves in looking to clinch but Coat pushes him off.
Coat misses with a takedown attempt
and Lucas counters with a big head kick but Coat shrugs it off.

Coat gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Lucas to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Lucas wants to stand but Coat has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Lucas wants to control from the top but Coat keeps moving.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Coat looking for a sweep. Not yet Coat, not yet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Coat wants to stand up but Lucas is controlling him.
Lucas trying to control but Coat is working from the bottom.
Coat pulls Lucas in close to his closed guard and prevents Lucas from doing any damage or advancing position.
Lucas trying to control but Coat is working from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Coat.
Lucas wants to control but Coat postures up.

Coat happy to just control the position for now.
Lucas is trying to buck Coat off.
Coat taking a breather here.

Coat throwing strikes but Lucas manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Coat wants to control but Lucas postures up.
Lucas wants to lay and pray for a moment but Coat keeps working.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Coat with a lazy takedown attempt
and Lucas counters with a low kick, right behind Coat 's knee.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for JC Coat. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A head kick from Lucas lands but Coat takes it in his stride.
Coat leaves Lucas with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Coat is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Lucas's half guard.

Coat controlling the action here.
Coat has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Lucas wants to get back to his feet.
Lucas is trying to control but can't.
JC Coat overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Coat performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Lucas missing with punches from the bottom.

And that's the end of the fight!
JC Coat showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Coat, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
