PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Henry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivo Reis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Reis comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Drop the wolrd kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Ivo Reis has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mark Henry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ivo Reis!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Nard Betker and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reis dives in and grabs Henry's left leg, looking for a takedown. Henry pushes down on Reis's head and hops out.
Henry throws a looping overhand right but Reis ducks down to avoid it.
Reis keeps the fight on the outside.

Henry cracks Reis with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Reis looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Henry finish him?


It looks like Ivo Reis has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Henry misses with a takedown attempt

and Reis counters with a single leg into guard. Henry didn't expect that.
Henry not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Henry will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Reis drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Reis jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Henry looking to control.

Henry is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Reis defends well.
Reis connects with a couple of short punches.

Reis is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Reis looks gassed!
Reis trying to control but Henry is working from the bottom.

Henry looking for a sweep. Not yet Henry, not yet.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Reis fails with the takedown

and Henry holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Henry takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Reis has Henry pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Henry manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Mark Henry has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ivo Reis.

Henry pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Henry doesn't manage to clinch there - Reis circles away.

Henry pushes Reis up against the cage in a clinch.
Henry really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Henry lands a hook to the side of the head.
Reis drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Henry gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Henry manages to pull guard.

Reis missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Henry is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Reis is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Henry is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Reis prevents Henry from getting back to his feet.
Reis wants to pass the guard but Henry is keeping the position.
Henry throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Henry wants to clinch

and Reis counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Reis got a little sloppy there for a moment and Henry has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Reis has managed to get both his arms back between Henry's legs - danger averted.
Reis wants to pass the guard but Henry is keeping the position.
Henry knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Reis on the ground.
Henry is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Reis is controlling him.
Henry keeping moving, preventing Reis from controlling successfully.
Reis controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Henry trying to keep a closed guard but Reis is proving a slippery customer.

Reis drops back looking for a leg! Henry is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Henry manages to kick Reis off! Reis jumps back into Henry's guard.
Henry wants to stand but Reis is controlling the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Henry tries to close the distance and clinch but Reis swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Reis scores with a takedown into Henry's guard.
Henry keeping moving, preventing Reis from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mark Henry will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Ivo Reis's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Henry throws a jab when Reis was well out of range.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Reis is defended easily by Henry.
Henry is looking to clinch but Reis is avoiding it.
Henry looks to clinch

and Reis counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Henry's guard now.
Reis wants to pass the guard but Henry is keeping the position.
Henry wants to get back to his feet but Reis is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Reis lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Reis trying to control but Henry is working from the bottom.

Reis throws a big right hand that misses.
Henry not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Henry keeping full guard, as Reis tries to pass.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Henry tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Reis counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Reis is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Henry escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Reis gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Reis passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Reis tries for a kimura but Henry is defending well.

Reis is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Henry has escaped the position, nice work there.
Reis scoring with punches and elbows.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Henry wants to control but Reis postures up.
Henry tries to escape but Reis is in control.
Reis is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Henry will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Reis lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Henry down.

Reis is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Henry is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Reis is trying to get an arm triangle but Henry is defending well.
You can see the frustration on Henry's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Reis is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Henry knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Henry is trying to get back to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Reis gets to mount! Henry was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ivo Reis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Reis closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Reis is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Henry doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Reis.
Henry looks like he's trying to stand up.
Henry is trying to maintain the position but Reis is very close to passing his half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Henry is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Reis passes to side control.
Henry wants to get back to his feet.
Reis working the body and head with strikes.

Reis has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Henry is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Reis yanks on the arm and Henry is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Reis.
