Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Thiago Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fernando Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maia comes into the arena with I Get Knocked Down blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Thiago Maia! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fernando Diaz! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Felipe Paraventi and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maia throws out a loose jab but Diaz uses good head movement to avoid it. Diaz will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Diaz misses with the combination.
Maia blocks a jab. Maia misses with a body shot.
Maia throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Diaz stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Maia scores with a takedown into Diaz's guard. Maia makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Diaz wants to stand up but Maia is controlling him. Diaz keeping full guard, as Maia tries to pass. Diaz is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Maia is controlling him. Diaz not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Maia cracks Diaz with a solid left hand. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Maia trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Maia is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Diaz keeping full guard, as Maia tries to pass.

Maia shoots in looking for a takedown. Diaz tries to sprawl out of it but Maia keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Diaz manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Maia looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Maia fails to land with a series of punches.

A jab from Maia misses. Maia throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Diaz. Maia misses with a double jab.
Diaz is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Maia. Diaz connects with the punch. Maia uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Diaz.

Maia throws a series of punches but Diaz moves out of range. Diaz swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. A swing and a miss from Diaz. Maia throws a body punch but Diaz moves out of range. Maia lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Diaz circles away quickly and effectively. Diaz takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Diaz defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Maia. Maia paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Maia misses with a straight right. Maia shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Diaz defends it nicely. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Thiago Maia. That's going to take a lot out of him. Maia uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Diaz. Maia sizes up Diaz with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Diaz lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Fernando Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Diaz looks to land a right hand but Maia moved out of range. Diaz throws a nice looking combination but Maia bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Diaz throws a shot from downtown. Maia moves away and avoids it. Maia staying out of range there. A jab lands there for Maia. Maia just misses with a punch to the body.
A jab from Diaz misses. Maia wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Maia defending well as Diaz loads up on a big left hand. Diaz throws an overhand right that lands on Maia's shoulder, as Maia tries to avoid the shot. Maia bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Diaz looks gassed! Maia wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Diaz, who protects the arm well. Maia sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Diaz is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Diaz defending against the ground and pound. Maia throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Maia is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Diaz looks calm but he's in trouble here. Maia gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Diaz is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Maia lets go of the hold and Diaz can pop his arm back in it's socket.
