0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Hassan Kazim! The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Ivan Kurochkin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Van der Gof tries to clinch but Kazim is having none of it. Kazim swats away the attempt to clinch by Van der Gof. Kazim tries to score a power double leg takedown but Van der Gof sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kazim somewhat. Kazim fails with the takedown. Kazim throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Van der Gof tries to keep at a distance but Kazim has taken the fight into the clinch. Kazim pressing his opponent against the cage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kazim throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges. Kazim is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Kazim presses Van der Gof against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot. Van der Gof will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Kazim up against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Van der Gof is trying to drag Kazim to the mat but Kazim just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Van der Gof looking to throw knees to the head but Kazim is blocking nicely.
Van der Gof is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Kazim pulls him back up using the underhooks. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Patrick Van der Gof. That's going to take a lot out of him. Van der Gof scores a nice knee to the body.
Come on Kazim - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Van der Gof gets control of Kazim's arms and successfully pulls guard. Van der Gof will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Van der Gof has Kazim pulled in close to control his posture. Kazim stands up over Van der Gof, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Van der Gof wants to get back to his feet but Kazim is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Kazim trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kazim wants to control from the top but Van der Gof keeps moving. Van der Gof looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Kazim must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Kazim is sitting in close to Van der Gof's body. Van der Gof has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Kazim is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Kazim is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Van der Gof.
