PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Damian Corway (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodrigo Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Damian Corway!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rodrigo Silva!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Luis Engracia and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Silva shoots for a double leg takedown but Corway sprawls well. He's pushed Silva's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Corway lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Silva feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Corway sprawling to the canvas! Corway rolls over backwards and springs off the ropes and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Silva finish him?!


Corway is rocked!


It looks like Damian Corway has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Silva swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Oh Corway is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Silva throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Corway seems to have got his legs back now.
Rodrigo Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Silva tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Corway swivels and escapes.
Corway lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Corway lands a jab to the head.
Corway moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Silva looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Damian Corway has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rodrigo Silva.
Corway checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Corway keeps the fight on the outside.

Silva gets caught flat footed, as Corway shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Corway prevents Silva from getting back to his feet.
Corway in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Corway throws a strike but Silva rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Silva stands and steps away. Corway gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Corway fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Corway fails with the takedown.
Silva misses with a straight right.
Silva swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Corway counters with a lovely shot to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Silva closes the distance but Corway moves to the side

and Corway counters with a single leg into guard. Silva didn't expect that.
Silva is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Corway is controlling him.
Silva utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Silva avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Corway throws a strike but Silva rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Silva prevents Corway from getting back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Silva wants to stand but Corway is controlling his posture from full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rodrigo Silva dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Damian Corway's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Corway scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Silva throws a left and a right that both miss

and Corway counters with a takedown into side control.
Corway throwing strikes but Silva manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

Silva stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Silva tries a head kick but it misses.
A looping hook to the body misses from Silva. Corway does a little dance to reset his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Silva pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Silva falls off balance throwing a combination
and Corway counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Corway with a poor takedown

and Silva counters with a shoot takedown. Corway fights it but they end up in guard.
Corway is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Corway trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Corway has a closed guard, preventing Silva from standing up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Corway wants to stand up but Silva is controlling him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rodrigo Silva showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Silva looks to land a left hand but Corway moved out of range nicely.
Silva throws a head kick that misses

and Corway counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Silva!
Corway throws some wild stikes that Silva manages to avoid easily.
Corway throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Corway throwing strikes here but Silva is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Silva avoids a strike by Corway and manages to complete a very nice reversal in the process, to end up in Corway's guard! Fantastic escape!
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Silva tries to stand but Corway is controlling from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Silva stands up from Corway's guard - Silva perhaps looking for a knockout.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nice defenses there by Corway.
Silva swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Corway counters with a shoot takedown. Silva fights it but they end up in guard.
Corway working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Corway throws and elbow that misses. Silva uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Corway's guard. Nice move by Silva!
Silva wanted to stand there but Corway had control of the position.
Rodrigo Silva is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

And that's the end of the fight!
Damian Corway showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Silva has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
