PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jan Modaal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Terry Striker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Terry Striker was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Skip Squint and Winston Howard.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Modaal walks into a jab.
Striker is looking to clinch.

Modaal drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Modaal trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Modaal works over Striker with some ground and pound from guard.
Modaal throws a big right hand that misses.
Striker is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Striker dips to his left and cracks Modaal with an uppercut!

Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Striker!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Striker throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Modaal doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Striker looks to land a combination but Modaal avoids it well.

Striker lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Striker.

Modaal misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Striker throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Modaal shoots in and drives through. Striker sprawls well.

Striker tries to close the distance and clinch but Modaal swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Striker rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Modaal moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Modaal throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Modaal fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Striker avoids it really well and circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jan Modaal. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Striker scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Modaal is breathing heavily.

Modaal changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Striker looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Striker is looking for a sweep.

Modaal tries for a kimura but Striker is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Modaal tries to score with some ground and pound. Striker controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
You can see the frustration on Striker's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Striker is not content to let Modaal control the position.
Striker manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Striker throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Modaal is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Striker bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Modaal's head.

Modaal throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A chopping leg kick lands by Striker.
Modaal is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Striker.
Striker connects with a crisp jab.
A cross from Striker lands.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Striker throws a series of punches but Modaal moves out of range.
Modaal takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Modaal is rocked!
Jan Modaal seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Striker moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Oh Modaal is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Striker is throwing a storm of strikes! Right hook, left hook and follows it up with a spinning back fist! Modaal hits the canvas like a rag doll! And just like that, this one is over!
