PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jake Aldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sebas Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lewis throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Lewis tries to clinch but Aldo is having none of it.

Aldo gets a takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Aldo stops Lewis from getting back to his feet.
Lewis pushes Aldo off but Aldo dives into side control.
Lewis tries to buck Aldo off but Aldo is having none of it.
Aldo moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Aldo's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Lewis is not content to let Aldo control the position.
You can see the frustration on Lewis's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Aldo in side control, throwing shots but Lewis defends.

Lewis thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Aldo utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Lewis misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Lewis swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Lewis lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Aldo circles away quickly and effectively.
Aldo ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Lewis moves away.
Lewis throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Aldo drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Aldo passes Lewis's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Aldo is thwarting Lewis's attempts to control the position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Aldo dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Lewis throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Aldo decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Lewis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Aldo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Aldo manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Aldo has control of Lewis's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Lewis regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Lewis trying desperately to get to his feet.

Aldo manages to capitalize on a mistake by Lewis to take his back!

Aldo working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Aldo is trying to control but Lewis is trying to escape here - he's now mounted.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Lewis wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Lewis controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lewis breaks Aldo's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Aldo dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Lewis looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Lewis with a poor takedown

so Aldo counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Lewis wants to stand but Aldo is controlling the position.

Aldo drops back looking for a leg! Lewis is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Lewis manages to kick Aldo off! Aldo jumps back into Lewis's guard.
Aldo is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Lewis is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Aldo defends well.

Aldo avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Lewis is looking to sweep but instead, Aldo has passed into half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Aldo is looking for a kimura here.
Aldo wants to control but Lewis is keeping him busy.

Lewis is staying active underneath Aldo, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Aldo is looking to advance position but Lewis won't allow it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Lewis rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Aldo moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Lewis fails with the takedown

and Aldo counters with a takedown into side control.
Lewis is looking for a sweep.

Aldo swings around for an armbar but Lewis sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Aldo's guard.
Lewis wanted to stand there but Aldo had control of the position.
Lewis in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Lewis has gone for a leg lock! Aldo slips out almost immediately though and dives into Lewis's guard.
Aldo passes into half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jake Aldo showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Aldo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
