Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Antonio Alves! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Victor Ribeiro! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Luis Engracia and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alves throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Ribeiro takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Alves stuffs the takedown attempt from Ribeiro. Ribeiro gets slowly back to his feet. Alves throws a head kick that half lands.
Alves pushes Ribeiro up against the cage in a clinch. Alves breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Alves instigates a clinch. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Alves tightens his grip and picks Ribeiro up, before dumping him to the ground. Ribeiro manages to land in guard. Alves decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Ribeiro, up you get! Ribeiro throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Alves was covering up waiting for the punch and Ribeiro finishes the takedown easily into guard. Ribeiro looks gassed! Ribeiro is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Alves wants to get back to his feet but Ribeiro is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alves is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Ribeiro throws a big right hand that misses. Alves manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Ribeiro chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Alves can pounce on him.
Alves throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Antonio Alves seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Ribeiro walks into a stiff left hand from Alves. Alves lands with a kick to the temple. Ribeiro shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Alves changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ribeiro looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Alves working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Alves working the ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alves lands some shots froms side control. Alves has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Ribeiro takes a kick to the side of the head. Alves has taken the fight to the clinch.
Alves breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ribeiro shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Ribeiro is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Alves is surviving well by controlling Ribeiro's body position as best he can. Ribeiro is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Alves has managed to escape the submission attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Ribeiro fails to advance to Alves's back. Alves is looking to get to half guard. Ribeiro throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Ribeiro thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
You get the feeling that Alves really doesn't like being in this position too much.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Ribeiro thowing shots but they're missing. Ribeiro has hold of Alves's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Alves manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Ribeiro jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Alves is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Alves and Ribeiro has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Ribeiro has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Ribeiro throwing strikes but missing, from side control. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Ribeiro prevents Alves from escaping the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Antonio Alves dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Alves doesn't manage to clinch there - Ribeiro circles away.
Alves lands with a nice body punch. Ribeiro takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Left hook, right uppercut from Alves. Ribeiro gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Alves counters with an outside leg kick.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Alves. Ribeiro shrugs it off though. Alves lands a nice looking body shot.
Alves shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Alves is in the full mount, landing strikes. Ribeiro is looking to improve his position but Alves isn't that keen on the idea. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Ribeiro is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alves lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Alves looking to control but Ribeiro is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Alves looking to ground and pound but Ribeiro is blocking nicely. Ribeiro blocking the ground and pound. Alves misses with a head shot. Ribeiro bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Alves is looking to stand up but Ribeiro isn't so interested in that idea. Ribeiro trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Alves wants to stand up but Ribeiro is controlling him. Alves keeping full guard, as Ribeiro tries to pass. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Ribeiro drops back, looking for a kneebar! Alves looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Alves looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Alves! Alves is looking to take a break and control but Ribeiro is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Ribeiro tries to get back to half guard but can't. Alves controlling the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ribeiro tries to buck Alves off but Alves is having none of it. Alves knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ribeiro on the ground. Ribeiro defending against the ground and pound. Alves fails to land a wild elbow strike.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Ribeiro circles away from the clinch attempt.
Ribeiro doesn't succeed with the takedown and Alves counters with a nice kick to the body. Alves tries to clinch but Ribeiro moves out of range. Alves instigates a clinch. Alves manages to break the clinch.
Alves throws a leg kick but Ribeiro sees it coming and moves out of range. Alves fails to land with a series of punches.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Alves throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Ribeiro shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Alves's guard. Alves is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Alves jumps guard and drags Ribeiro to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Alves wants to stand up but Ribeiro is controlling him. Alves preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Alves utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Ribeiro is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Alves is trying to keep Ribeiro in close.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Antonio Alves dominated that second round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!
Ribeiro shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Alves pinned against the cage. Alves gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Alves throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Alves scores with a one two! Ribeiro had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Ribeiro shoots in for a takedown but Alves shows good takedown defense. Alves throws a leg kick which misses Ribeiro's front leg but catches the back leg as Ribeiro tries to avoid it. Alves scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Alves thumps Ribeiro with a low kick. Alves pushes Ribeiro up against the cage in a clinch. Alves with a knee to the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alves has hold of one of Ribeiro's legs. Ribeiro is fighting the takedown attempt but Alves gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Alves working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Alves got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ribeiro has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Alves has managed to get both his arms back between Ribeiro's legs - danger averted. Ribeiro is looking for a triangle but Alves pushes his legs off easily.
Alves trying to control the position from guard on top but Ribeiro is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Alves tries to stand but Ribeiro is controlling from the bottom. Alves is sitting in close to Ribeiro's body. Ribeiro has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Alves is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Alves is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Ribeiro.
