2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Darrell Thomas! The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Roosa Järviläinen and Arvi Lind.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Korsto swings for the body but Thomas moves out of range.
Korsto closes this distance looking for a takedown but Thomas circles away. Korsto looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Korsto blocks a jab. Thomas keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Korsto. Darrell Thomas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Thomas misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Thomas takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Thomas closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Korsto to the mat! Korsto manages to get full guard. Thomas advances to half guard. Thomas working the head and body with strikes. Thomas with the ground and pound but Korsto uses the opportunity to regain guard. Thomas lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Thomas must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Korsto avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Thomas with a flurry of punches that miss. Thomas in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Korsto is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Korsto tries for a takedown but Thomas circles away easily and Thomas counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kari Korsto. That's going to take a lot out of him. Korsto is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment. Thomas landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Thomas misses with a head shot. Korsto uses the momentum to regain guard. Thomas with a flurry of punches that miss.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Thomas throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Korsto works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Thomasis looking to pass into half guard but Korsto pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Korsto is in guard. Thomas keeping full guard, as Korsto tries to pass. Korsto drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Thomas manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Korsto has Thomas in his guard. Korsto lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Thomas!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Korsto working for a guillotine from mount but Thomas is in no mood to give up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Korsto has hold of Thomas's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Thomas manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Thomas really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Korsto. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Thomas trying desperately to get to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Korsto punishing his opponent with strikes. Korsto looking to finish with strikes here!

That was a close round but I would say that Kari Korsto will probably get the nod. That's time! Korsto's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Thomas is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Korsto is controlling him. Korsto sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Thomas's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Korsto slips a nice elbow through Thomas's hands, connecting with Thomas's forehead. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Thomas can do anything to dispel that myth. Korsto not landing any meaningful shots this time. Korsto throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Korsto throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Korsto seems to be looking for submissions.
Korsto thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Thomas's head. Thomas pushes Korsto off looking to stand but Korsto dives back in and keeps control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Korsto sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Thomas defending well though.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Korsto shoots and misses and Thomas counters with a nice double leg into guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Thomas working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Thomas cracks Korsto with a solid left hand. Thomas is looking to work some ground and pound but Korsto has wrist control. Thomas with a flurry of punches that miss. Thomas throws and elbow that misses. Korsto uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Thomas's guard. Nice move by Korsto! Thomas keeping moving, preventing Korsto from controlling successfully. Thomas is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Korsto can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Thomas is looking to escape. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Kari Korsto will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

and Korsto counters with a shoot takedown. Thomas fights it but they end up in guard. Korsto missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Thomas is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Korsto postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
That's one minute gone in the round. Korsto throws a big right hand that misses. Korsto looking to sit in guard and control but Thomas gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Korsto trying to control the position.
Thomas is fighting to break Korsto's control of his arms but Korsto is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Thomas looking to pass the guard.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Korsto with a lazy takedown attempt and Thomas counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Thomas working Korsto over with strikes. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Thomas winds up and cracks Korsto with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Thomas misses with a head shot. Korsto uses the momentum to regain guard. Thomas wants to pass the guard but Korsto is keeping the position. Korsto looking to hit a scissor sweep but Thomas is one step ahead there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Thomas throws a strike but Korsto rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Thomas keeping full guard, as Korsto tries to pass. Korsto won't allow Thomas to get back to his feet. Darrell Thomas has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Korsto trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Thomas tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Korsto was well out of range. Poor timing from Thomas. Thomas closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Thomas creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Korsto sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Korsto wants to control but Thomas postures up. Kari Korsto is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Korsto is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Korsto wants to improve his position but Thomas is controlling well.
Thomas scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
And that's the end of the fight! Darrell Thomas comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Korsto has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
