Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Carl Malone!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones defending well as Malone loads up on a big left hand.
A combination from Malone does no damage.
Jones slips a jab and a cross from Malone.
Jones fails with an attempt to clinch.
Malone misses with a double jab.
Jones showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Malone.

Jones shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Malone manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Malone parries the strikes from Jones easily there. Jones is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Malone to escape.

Jones tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jones has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones wants to lay and pray for a moment but Malone keeps working.

Jones is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Malone has escaped the position, nice work there.

Jones lands an elbow.
Malone tries to bench press Jones off him but Jones keeps the position.
Malone is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Jones is controlling him well.
Jones trying to control the position but Malone is working away.
Malone really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Malone rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jones moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Jones stands and throws Malone's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Malone trying to remain calm as Jones controls from the top position.
Jones misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Jones wants to lay and pray for a moment but Malone keeps working.
Jones is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Malone is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jones feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jones wants to stand but Malone is controlling his posture from full guard.

Jones stands up from Malone's guard - Jones perhaps looking for a knockout.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Jones looking for a guillotine here but Malone defends easily.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Malone fails to land with a series of punches.
Malone will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Malone shoots for a takedown but Jones saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

and Jones decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Malone's guard.
James J Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Carl Malone.

Jones sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Malone's guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Malone can do anything to dispel that myth.

Carl Malone has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jones seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Malone for as long as he can get away with.

Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Malone swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jones, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
