PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between retreat walshy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lawrence Powers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). walshy has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, retreat walshy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lawrence Powers!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Cecil Peabody and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Powers moves into the clinch.
Powers drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Powers is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. walshy can't fight it off and eventually Powers manages to take the fight to the floor. walshy looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
walshy being controlled here, momentarily.
Powers trying to control but walshy is working from the bottom.
walshy is breathing heavily.

Powers stands and steps away. walshy gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Powers scores a takedown into full mount!
walshy avoids a series of strikes thrown by Powers.
Powers trying to control but walshy is having none of it.
Powers is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Powers landing punches.
Powers wants to get back to his feet but walshy is holding on tight.
Powers pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Powers is going olschool here, as he tries to force walshy to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so walshy shrugs it off.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
walshy is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
walshy tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Powers can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as walshy is looking to escape.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Powers landing shots from mount.
Powers throwing strikes here but walshy is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Powers trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Powers is looking to stand but Powers has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Powers looking to ground and pound but walshy is blocking nicely.
walshy's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
walshy is trying to reverse the position but instead Powers has taken his back - oops!
Powers tries to get the hooks in deep but walshy pushed the leg off.
walshy tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Powers connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Powers looking to control but walshy is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Powers landing shots from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lawrence Powers dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


walshy stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and walshy wants it to stay on the feet.
Powers misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Powers is trying hard to land a takedown here. walshy sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
retreat walshy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lawrence Powers.

Powers shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Powers was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Powers looking to finish walshy with some ground and pound. This is bad for walshy!
walshy is looking to get to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Powers looking to control but walshy is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

walshy tries to hold on but Powers pushes him away.
Powers trying to control but he's not successful this time.
walshy tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Powers raining down shots from the mount!
walshy holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Powers tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Powers tries to control but walshy wriggling away.
walshy blocking the ground and pound.
Powers trying to control but walshy is having none of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
walshy regains half guard.

walshy actively working from the bottom here.
Still in half guard, Powers seems content to control.
Powers is trying to control the action in half guard but walshy is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Despite being in the dominant position, Lawrence Powers just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Powers shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. walshy defends it nicely.
Powers lands with a kick to the temple. walshy shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Powers throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around walshy's waist but walshy gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Powers off to one side.
walshy misses with a takedown attempt
and Powers counters with a head kick. That will keep walshy thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Powers rushes walshy and presses him up against the cage.

Powers breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
walshy is trying hard to land a takedown here. Powers sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
walshy has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from walshy there as he acknowledges the shot.
Powers staying out of range there.
Lawrence Powers is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Powers tries to close the distance and clinch up but walshy swats him away and circles back towards the center.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lawrence Powers showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



walshy shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. walshy showed some decent athleticism there.
Powers wants to get back to full guard.
Powers throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
walshy stops Powers from getting back to his feet.

walshy is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

walshy is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
walshy throwing shots but Powers is blocking nicely.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Powers gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

so walshy counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
walshy slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
walshy trying to control but Powers is working from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
walshy tries to free his leg and advance position but Powers is retaining full guard.

walshy thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
walshy trying to control the position from guard on top but Powers is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Lawrence Powers is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
walshy won't allow Powers to sweep him here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
walshy thows a big elbow that misses.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
No luck for Powers with that takedown attempt.
Powers is looking to clinch but walshy is avoiding it.
Powers shoots in but walshy avoids the takedown attempt easily.
retreat walshy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lawrence Powers.
Powers throws a right and a left that walshy avoids nicely.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
walshy misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
retreat walshy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Powers feints and as walshy raises his hands in defense, Powers changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
retreat walshy showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Powers has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
