Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dan Youngblood! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Luiz Fernandes! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Matheus Silva and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Youngblood drives through and clinches with Fernandes against the cage.
Fernandes pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Youngblood tries to score a power double leg takedown but Fernandes sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Youngblood somewhat. Fernandes tries to clinch but Youngblood is having none of it. Fernandes shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Youngblood as he avoids it easily. Fernandes keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Fernandes checks a leg kick. Youngblood with a poor takedown and Fernandes moves into the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dan Youngblood. That's going to take a lot out of him. Fernandes breaks from the clinch.
Fernandes slaps away a takedown attempt from Youngblood, before circling back to the center of the mat. Fernandes looks to land a right hand but Youngblood moved out of range. Youngblood shoots in and drives through. Fernandes sprawls well. Youngblood looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Fernandes throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fernandes is trying to get back to full guard. Youngblood is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Fernandes defends it well. Fernandes kicks off Youngblood and gets to his feet. Youngblood is breathing heavily. Fernandes fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Fernandes throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Youngblood's waist but Youngblood gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Fernandes off to one side. Youngblood misses with a body shot
so Fernandes counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Youngblood keeping moving, preventing Fernandes from controlling successfully.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Youngblood looking to hit a scissor sweep but Fernandes is one step ahead there. Fernandes wants to pass the guard but Youngblood is keeping the position. Fernandes works a leg free and moves into half guard. Fernandes is looking to take a break and control but Youngblood is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Fernandes looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fernandes wants to free his trapped foot but Youngblood is holding on for dear life with his legs. Youngblood is in trouble now - Fernandes has advanced to mount!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Fernandes tries to control but Youngblood wriggling away. Fernandes with a couple of short strikes. Fernandes looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Youngblood is trying to escape the mount.
Youngblood wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Luiz Fernandes dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Fernandes throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Youngblood's head. Youngblood avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Fernandes lands a jab. Fernandes fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Fernandes clinches but Youngblood breaks the clinch and Youngblood counters with a straight right hand. Fernandes swats away the attempt to clinch by Youngblood. Youngblood tries to clinch but fails miserably and Fernandes counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Fernandes. Fernandes trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Youngblood manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! Youngblood won't allow Fernandes to sweep him here. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fernandes not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Youngblood sitting in guard, not really doing much. Fernandes looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Youngblood trying to control but Fernandes is working from the bottom. Fernandes looking for a sweep. Not yet Fernandes, not yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Youngblood shoots in but no luck this time. Excellent takedown into side control there by Fernandes. Youngblood defending against the ground and pound. Youngblood manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Fernandes moves into full guard.
Youngblood slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Youngblood has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Fernandes throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Youngblood is looking to work some ground and pound but Fernandes has wrist control. Fernandes looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Fernandes controls Youngblood momentarily but Youngblood frees himself. Fernandes is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Youngblood trying to control but Fernandes postures up.
Youngblood is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Fernandes wants to stand up but Youngblood has a hold of him and won't allow it. Youngblood has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Fernandes is working away from the top position though. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Luiz Fernandes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Youngblood's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!
Horrible takedown by Fernandes or perhaps it was just good defense by Youngblood which made him look bad. Fernandes throws a sloppy head kick and Youngblood moves out of range easily. Fernandes fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Youngblood avoids it really well and circles away. Youngblood looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Fernandes moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The fight moves into the clinch position. Fernandes drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Dan Youngblood has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luiz Fernandes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Youngblood is pressed up against the cage. Fernandes has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Youngblood down to the mat. Youngblood avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Youngblood misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Fernandes looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Youngblood thows a leg kick but Fernandes checks it and Fernandes makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Youngblood really felt that one! A jab lands there for Youngblood. Youngblood misses with a takedown attempt - Fernandes sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Fernandes moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Youngblood wants to clinch and Fernandes counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Youngblood!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Youngblood is in a horrible position here. Fernandes smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Fernandes prevents Youngblood from getting the reversal. Youngblood flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Youngblood wants to control but Fernandes is having none of it. Luiz Fernandes has got the better of the ground game so far. Fernandes manages to capitalize on a mistake by Youngblood to take his back! Fernandes missing with strikes.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Youngblood is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Fernandes is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Fernandes gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Fernandes gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Fernandes apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Fernandes ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Fernandes looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Fernandes missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Fernandes is looking to take a break and control but Youngblood is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Youngblood kicks off Fernandes and gets to his feet. Fernandes tries to clinch but Youngblood is having none of it. Youngblood looking to pass the guard. Dan Youngblood has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Luiz Fernandes is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Fernandes has momentary wrist control but Youngblood slips an elbow through the middle.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Luiz Fernandes. Well Fernandes has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
