PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Artemis Entreri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phil Hsu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hsu has chosen Lose Yourself as his entrance music. Phil Hsu is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Artemis Entreri!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Phil Hsu!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hsu closes the distance and clinches up with Entreri, looking for a takedown. Hsu pushes Entreri against the cage but Entreri circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Nice body punch from Entreri.
Entreri throws out a powerful jab.
Hsu throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Entreri.
Entreri bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Hsu's head.


Hsu is rocked!


It looks like Phil Hsu has been cut.
Entreri tries to clinch up but Hsu circles away and keeps his distance.
Hsu is still on wobbly legs! Can Entreri finish him?
Hsu takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Entreri misses with a wild combination.

Entreri shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Entreri was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
You get the feeling that Hsu really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Hsu seems to have recovered his senses.
Hsu is squirming around, avoiding Entreri's attempts to control the action.
Hsu working to try and regain half guard.
Hsu tries to lock up and control but Entreri gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Hsu looks gassed!
Hsu is looking to get to half guard.
Entreri controlling the position easily from mount.

Entreri sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Entreri controlling the pace for now.
Entreri really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Hsu is working to get back to half guard.
Hsu wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Entreri.
Hsu is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Entreri tries to control but Hsu wriggling away.
Entreri throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hsu tries to lock up and control but Entreri gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Entreri has control of Hsu's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Hsu regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Entreri tries to control but Hsu wriggling away.
Entreri looking to control and managing it successfully.

Hsu defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Entreri.
Hsu slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Entreri stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Hsu to get to his feet.

Entreri is looking to clinch.

Entreri shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hsu's guard.

Entreri gets to his feet - Hsu follows without any prompting.
Hsu doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Entreri throws a right hand that Hsu ducks under and follows up with a left that Hsu also avoids with ease.
Entreri misses with a series of wild punches.
Hsu has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Entreri tries for a takedown but Hsu circles away easily

and Hsu counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Hsu wants to control from the top but Entreri keeps moving.
Entreri wants to sweep here but Hsu controlling him for the moment.
Hsu trying to control the position from guard on top but Entreri is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Entreri looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hsu is one step ahead there.

Hsu breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Entreri avoids a punch combination nicely.
Entreri's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Entreri duly obliges.

Hsu drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Entreri wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Hsu is now in half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hsu seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Entreri does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Entreri is looking to control Hsu's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Entreri avoid being mounted?

Hsu takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Entreri throws a nice looking combination but Hsu bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Entreri moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Hsu misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Hsu shoots in for a takedown but Entreri shows good takedown defense.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phil Hsu showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Hsu takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Entreri wants to stand up but Hsu is controlling him.

Hsu gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

and Hsu counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Entreri has had enough of the clinch but Hsu keeps him there for the moment.
Hsu with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Hsu blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Entreri wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Hsu prevents Entreri from breaking the clinch.
Entreri wants to get back to striking at distance but Hsu won't allow it.
Hsu just leaning against Entreri, taking a breather.

Hsu controls Entreri momentarily but Entreri frees himself.
Entreri won't allow Hsu to get back to his feet.

Hsu might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Entreri kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Entreri wants to pass the guard but Hsu is keeping the position.
Entreri wanted to stand there but Hsu had control of the position.
Hsu keeping moving, preventing Entreri from controlling successfully.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Entreri looks to land a combination but Hsu avoids it well.
Hsu lands a nice looking kick to the body. Entreri takes a step back to recover.
Artemis Entreri seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Entreri changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hsu tries to avoid it but Entreri manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hsu to the ground. Hsu escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Artemis Entreri. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Entreri keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Entreri fails with an attempt to clinch.
Hsu keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Entreri.

Entreri closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Entreri stands up out of the half guard.
Hsu lands with a thumping leg kick.
Entreri throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Danga de danga de dang - Hsu scores with a four punch combination!

and Hsu counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hsu wants to control but Entreri is keeping him busy.
Entreri gets full guard.
Entreri looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hsu is one step ahead there.

And that's the end of the fight!
Phil Hsu comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Hsu has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
