Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Vjay Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aurelio Miguel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Aurelio Miguel is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vjay Cruz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Aurelio Miguel!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Edson Gomes and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miguel shoots for a takedown but Cruz saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Cruz misses with a takedown

and Miguel counters with a shoot takedown. Cruz fights it but they end up in guard.
Miguel working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Miguel accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Miguel throws a strike but Cruz rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Cruz wants to stand but Miguel is controlling his posture from full guard.
Cruz trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Cruz with a flurry of punches that miss.
Miguel is looking to stand up but Cruz isn't so interested in that idea.
Cruz will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Cruz is looking to stand up but Miguel won't let him.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Miguel drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Cruz keeping moving, preventing Miguel from controlling successfully.

Cruz wriggles free and stands up.

Miguel closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Miguel prevents Cruz from escaping the position.
Miguel is looking to take a break and control but Cruz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Miguel is trying to ground and pound but Cruz uses the momentary lack of control by Miguel to regain half guard.

Miguel sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Cruz defending well though.
Cruz gets back to full guard.
Cruz is controlling Miguel's posture.
Miguel throws a strike but Cruz rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Miguel looks gassed!
Miguel wants to stand up but Cruz is controlling him.
Cruz throwing strikes from guard but Miguel blocks nicely.
Cruz trying to control the position from guard on top but Miguel is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Cruz is in close to Miguel's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Miguel preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Cruz not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Miguel wants to get back to his feet but Cruz is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Cruz misses with a takedown
enabling Miguel to counter with a crisp jab.

Cruz closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Cruz is looking for a kimura but Miguel is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Cruz to get the leverage.
Cruz wants to pass to mount but Miguel is defending the position.
Cruz stops Miguel from getting back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Miguel pushes Cruz off but Cruz dives into side control.

Cruz is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Miguel has escaped the position, nice work there.
Miguel is trying to get back to his feet.
Check out the look on Cruz's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Miguel pushes Cruz away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Cruz gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Miguel is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Miguel is not content to let Cruz control the position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Vjay Cruz will probably get the nod.

Cruz fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Miguel, pushing him back against the ropes.

Cruz jumps guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Cruz holds on and takes a little breather.
Cruz trying to keep a closed guard but Miguel is proving a slippery customer.
Miguel postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Cruz lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Miguel!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Miguel can do anything to dispel that myth.
Miguel is breathing heavily.
Cruz sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Vjay Cruz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Miguel is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Miguel is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Cruz has taken his back!
