PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jon Pall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mateusz Szmidt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jon Pall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mateusz Szmidt!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Anthony Taglia and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pall scoring well with a low kick there.
Szmidt fails with a takedown attempt.
Pall defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Szmidt.
Szmidt shoots in but no luck this time.
Jon Pall has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mateusz Szmidt.

Pall throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Szmidt was covering up waiting for the punch and Pall finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Szmidt is trying to keep Pall in close.
Pall won't allow Szmidt to sweep him here.
Pall postures up.
Pall is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Pall tries to stand but Szmidt is controlling from the bottom.
Pall sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Szmidt wants to improve his position but instead Pall has moved into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Szmidt tries to roll over but Pall keeps him under control.

Pall stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Szmidt lands with a shot to the body.

Pall gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Pall tries a knee to the head but Szmidt blocks it.
Pall is trying to break the clinch but Szmidt has him pressed against the cage.

Pall successfully pulls guard.
Pall trying to keep a closed guard but Szmidt is proving a slippery customer.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pall is looking to stand up but Szmidt isn't so interested in that idea.
Szmidt looking to sit in guard and control but Pall gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Pall trying to control the position from guard on top but Szmidt is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Szmidt looking to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Szmidt wants to sweep but no luck.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Szmidt holds on and takes a little breather.
Szmidt keeping moving, preventing Pall from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Szmidt looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Pall dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Szmidt tries to clinch but Pall moves away

and Pall counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Szmidt trying to control the position.
Pall sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Pall has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pall trying to control but Szmidt is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Szmidt throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Szmidt is trying to control the position but Pall postures up.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Szmidt is on top in guard.
Szmidt wants to get up but he can't break Pall's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Szmidt slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Szmidt is breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Szmidt stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pall swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Pall is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Szmidt won't allow Pall to sweep him here.
Szmidt wants to stand but Pall is controlling his posture from full guard.

Szmidt gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Pall darts in and clinches Szmidt up against the cage.
Szmidt tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Pall smiles and moves away.
Szmidt shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Pall counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Szmidt looking for a sweep. Not yet Szmidt, not yet.
Szmidt not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Pall trying to control but Szmidt is working from the bottom.
Pall is really struggling to control Szmidt but he's trying to hold on to the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Pall sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Szmidt's guard.
Pall is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Pall stands up out of the half guard.
Pall throws a head kick but Szmidt moves out of range.

Pall decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Pall dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Szmidt shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Pall counters with a takedown into side control.
Szmidt is being controlled here.
Szmidt stuck in half guard on the bottom here.
Pall is looking to take a break and control but Szmidt is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Pall working away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pall is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Szmidt will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Pall seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Szmidt for as long as he can get away with.
Pall lands a nice forearm strike.
Szmidt seems a little lost for a moment, as Pall dominates the positioning.
Szmidt taking a bit of punishment here - Pall scoring with strikes.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Pall is staying tight to Szmidt's torso, preventing him from escaping.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Jon Pall just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Szmidt misses with a takedown attempt
and Pall counters with a nice low kick that buckles Szmidt's knee momentarily.

Szmidt gets caught flat footed, as Pall shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Pall controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Pall throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Szmidt works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Pall is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Szmidt wants to hit a switch here but Pall passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Szmidt there!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pall trying to control but Szmidt is having none of it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Szmidt slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Pall trying to control from half guard but Szmidt is working away.
Szmidt is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Pall is working for a kimura but Szmidt is defending it quite comfortably.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jon Pall showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Pall has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
