PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Marcus Frost (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paulo Filho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Marcus Frost!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Paulo Filho!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Frost rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Filho moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Frost misses with a series of wild punches.
Frost blocks a leg kick.
A big left from Frost misses.
Frost fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Filho tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Marcus Frost seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Filho fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Frost manages to avoid it.
Filho fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Frost on the side of the head.
Filho should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Filho uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Frost.
Frost swings for the body but Filho moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Frost misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Frost connects with the punch.
Filho dodges the punch combination from Frost.
Frost takes a swing at Filho's ribcage but misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Frost throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Frost will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Frost misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
The fighters circling - Frost throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Filho throws a head kick that misses.
Frost lands a jab to Filho's midsection.
Filho tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Filho swings widly with a right hand
and Frost counters with a two punch combo.
Filho swings for the body but Frost moves out of range.
Frost misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Filho throws a wild body kick that Frost sees coming a mile off.
Frost misses with a body shot

and Filho counters with a single leg into guard. Frost didn't expect that.
Frost is trying to keep Filho in close.
Filho pushes down on Frost's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Frost keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Filho winds up and cracks Frost with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Filho is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Frost!
Frost is breathing heavily.

Filho has hold of Frost's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Frost manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Frost tries to hold on but Filho pushes him away.
Frost is in a horrible position here. Filho smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Filho breaks from Frost's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Frost is looking to get to half guard.

Filho has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Frost's face.
Frost is trying desperately to improve position.
Frost throwing hammer fists to the chest of Filho. What's that going to do exactly?
Frost flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Frost is wriggling around trying to escape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Frost sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Frost blocking the ground and pound attempt from Filho.
Frost is pressing down on Filho's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Frost tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Frost looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Filho passes into half guard.
Filho wants to control but Frost is keeping him busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Filho has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Filho takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Frost wants to get back to full guard.
Filho throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Frost is not content to let Filho control the position.
Filho trying to control the pace.
Filho prevents Frost from improving his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paulo Filho dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Filho shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Filho showed some decent athleticism there.
Filho lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Filho is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Frost doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Filho.
Filho is thwarting Frost's attempts to control the position.

Filho is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Frost is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Paulo Filho!
