0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wanderlei Silva! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Wesley Smith and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fight stays on the outside here - Silva looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Silva is trying hard to land a takedown here. Melendez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Silva pinned against the cage. Silva gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Melendez throws a head kick that misses. Silva shoots in for a takedown but Melendez shows good takedown defense. No luck for Silva with that takedown attempt. Juan Pablo Melendez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wanderlei Silva. Silva keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Melendez closes the distance and clinches. Silva misses with the head strike.

Melendez is working for takedown but Silva is calmly controlling the position for now.

Melendez is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Silva pulls him back up using the underhooks. Melendez tries to pull guard but Silva won't allow it.

Melendez rushes Silva and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Melendez pushes Silva back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. Silva trying to stall but Melendez improves his position.

Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Melendez gets to his feet. Silva looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Silva tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Melendez counters with a single leg into guard. Silva didn't expect that.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This has been an exciting period of action! Silva is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Silva has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Melendez trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Melendez seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Melendez stands up and waves to Silva to follow him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A punch combination from Silva misses. Silva wants to clinch but Melendez slips to the side and Melendez counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Melendez. Silva preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Melendez wants to stand but Silva is controlling his posture from full guard. Silva throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Silva keeping full guard, as Melendez tries to pass. Melendez looking to sit in guard and control but Silva gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Melendez bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Silva's guard. Melendez stops Silva from standing up. Silva working a defensive guard here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Juan Pablo Melendez dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Silva wants to clinch and Melendez counters with a stiff right hand. Silva tries to clinch up and Melendez connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Silva defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Melendez. Wanderlei Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Silva misses with a takedown attempt - Melendez sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Silva is trying hard to land a takedown here. Melendez sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. The fight moves into the clinch position. Good anti-grappling being displayed by Melendez as Silva tries to tie him up. Melendez tries to pull guard but Silva holds him up against the cage and eventually Melendez drops back down to his feet.
Melendez is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Silva gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Juan Pablo Melendez. That's going to take a lot out of him. Silva has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Melendez avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Melendez decides to pull guard. Silva trying to control but Melendez is working from the bottom. Silva is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Silva gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Silva tries to clinch and Melendez counters with a shoot takedown. Silva fights it but they end up in guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Melendez wants to control from the top but Silva keeps moving.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Melendez stands up from Silva's guard - Melendez perhaps looking for a knockout. Melendez circles away from the clinch attempt and Melendez counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Melendez. Silva stalling in the clinch but Melendez improves position. Melendez misses with a knee to the head. Silva has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Silva's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Silva breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Silva gets caught flat footed, as Melendez shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Silva is looking to stand up but Melendez isn't so interested in that idea. Silva keeping moving, preventing Melendez from controlling successfully. Silva escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Melendez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Melendez trying to control the position from guard on top but Silva is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Melendez sitting in guard, not really doing much. Juan Pablo Melendez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Melendez pushes down on Silva's leg and manages to get into half guard. Silva is trying to stand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

No luck for Melendez with that takedown attempt. Melendez scores with a body shot.
Silva darts in trying to clinch and Melendez moves into the clinch. Melendez takes a knee right on the jaw!
Silva tries to score a body lock takedown but Melendez shows good agility there to stay on his feet. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Melendez. Melendez fails to pull the fight into his guard.
The referee is keeping an eye on Silva - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Silva is looking to control Melendez's arms but Melendez gets an underhook and turns him. Now Silva has his back to the cage. Melendez is looking to break free of the clinch but Silva has double underhooks. Silva fails to pull guard.
Silva changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Melendez fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Juan Pablo Melendez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wanderlei Silva. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Melendez clinches up with Silva and pushes him back against the cage. Silva is trying to break free.

Melendez works a leg free and moves into half guard. Silva is not content to let Melendez control the position. Melendez trying to control from Silva's half guard. Silva has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Silva wants to stand but Melendez is controlling the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Melendez trying to control the position from guard on top but Silva is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Melendez is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Silva is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Melendez passes Silva's left leg - he's now in half guard. Silva tries to get to full guard but Melendez has control of the leg. Melendez trying to pass the guard but Silva defending well.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Silva wants to clinch and Melendez counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Silva thinking. Silva tries to clinch but fails miserably and Melendez counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Silva's guard now. Melendez stopping the sweep attempt from Silva.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Melendez pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Silva is keeping the position for now. Melendez gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Silva darts in trying to clinch and Melendez counters with a straight right hand. Silva wants to clinch and Melendez counters with a nice double leg into guard. Wanderlei Silva has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Silva lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Melendez!
And that's the end of the fight! Juan Pablo Melendez showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Melendez, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
