PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Damien Daiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan Montiero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Damien Daiz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Juan Montiero!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Montiero takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Montiero misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Daiz shoots in looking for a takedown. Montiero tries to sprawl out of it but Daiz keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Montiero manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Daiz throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Montiero.

Daiz looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Daiz works his foot free and advances to mount.
BOOM! Daiz connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Daiz trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Daiz avoids the attempt from Montiero to control.
Montiero is squirming around, avoiding Daiz's attempts to control the action.
Daiz raining down shots from the mount!
Montiero really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Montiero is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Daiz jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Montiero is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Montiero and Daiz has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Daiz controls the position.
Montiero manages to get back to half guard.
Montiero wants to get back to full guard but Daiz has passed into side control.
Montiero looks gassed!
Poor strikes thrown by Daiz there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Montiero tries to reverse the position but Daiz maintains control.
Montiero tries to improve his position but instead Daiz has taken his back!
Montiero prevents Daiz from getting a body triangle.
Montiero really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Daiz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Montiero tries to roll but Daiz sticks to his back.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Montiero tries to escape but Daiz has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Montiero rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Daiz tries to score a power double leg takedown but Montiero sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Daiz somewhat.
Daiz on the wrong end of a nice hook.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Montiero darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Montiero is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Daiz is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Daiz regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Montiero.
Montiero loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Daiz is looking to stand up but Montiero isn't so interested in that idea.

Daiz is working an open guard so Montiero takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Montiero stops a takedown attempt from Daiz.

Daiz pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Montiero throws a leg kick but Daiz sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Montiero shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Daiz is trying to defend but Montiero finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Montiero wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Daiz uses the opportunity to regain full guard.

Montiero is looking to work some ground and pound but Daiz has wrist control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Montiero throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Montiero throws a big right hand that misses.
Montiero postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Montiero won't allow Daiz to get back to his feet.
Daiz utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Montiero throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Daiz on the side of the head.
Daiz tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Montiero swivels and escapes.
Daiz throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Montiero.

Montiero drives through and clinches with Daiz against the cage.
Montiero tries a knee to the head but Daiz blocks it.
Daiz has Montiero pressed against the cage.
Daiz fails to pull guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Damien Daiz. That's going to take a lot out of him.

A frustrated look appears on Montiero's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Montiero manages to break the clinch.
Montiero swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Daiz checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Daiz scores with a one two! Montiero had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Daiz is trying hard to land a takedown here. Montiero sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Montiero fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Daiz is out of range.
Montiero dives in and grabs Daiz's left leg, looking for a takedown. Daiz pushes down on Montiero's head and hops out.
Daiz takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Daiz fails with the takedown.
Daiz tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Montiero swivels and escapes.

Montiero feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Daiz avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Daiz manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Montiero manages to get himself to full guard.

Montiero is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Montiero keeping moving, preventing Daiz from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Juan Montiero showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Daiz keeps control of Montiero as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Daiz swings wildly with an uppercut but Montiero uses good head movement to avoid it.
Daiz fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Montiero changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Daiz fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Montiero gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Daiz to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Daiz trying to control but Montiero is working from the bottom.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Daiz is looking to work some ground and pound but Montiero has wrist control.
Montiero bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Daiz's guard.
Montiero scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Montiero looking to sit in guard and control but Daiz gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Daiz wants to control from the top but Montiero keeps moving.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Montiero can do anything to dispel that myth.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Montiero wants to sweep here but Daiz controlling him for the moment.
Montiero pulls Daiz in close to prevent any damage.
Daiz trying to control the position from guard on top but Montiero is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

and Montiero counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Montiero misses with a double jab
and Daiz counters with a nice body kick.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Montiero throws a sloppy head kick and Daiz moves out of range easily.

Montiero pushes Daiz up against the cage in a clinch.
Montiero wants a takedown but no success here.
Daiz tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Montiero is looking to break free of the clinch but Daiz has double underhooks.
Daiz tries to pull guard but Montiero holds him up against the cage and eventually Daiz drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Damien Daiz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Daiz is trying to stall.
Montiero tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Daiz smiles and moves away.
Montiero closes the distance and clinches up with Daiz, looking for a takedown. Montiero pushes Daiz against the cage but Daiz circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

and Daiz counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.

And that's the end of the fight!
Damien Daiz showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Daiz has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
