Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gary Rourke! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Nash Montes! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Felipe Paraventi and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Montes fails with an attempt to clinch.
Rourke is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Montes tries to clinch up. Montes thows a body shot but no joy. Rourke moves into range and connects with a jab.
It looks like Nash Montes has been cut. Montes tries to clinch up. Montes is looking to clinch but Rourke is avoiding it.
Good standup being displayed there by Rourke as he connects with a hook. Montes takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Rourke cracks Montes with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Rourke lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
That's one minute gone in the round. Montes misses with a body kick. Rourke jabs Montes right on the nose. Montes blinks but takes it well. Rourke lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Montes looks for the body kick but Rourke saw that one coming. Rourke scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Rourke lunges at Montes with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Montes's hand. The fight stays on the outside here - Montes looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Rourke lands a jab to the nose.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Montes shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Montes takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Rourke fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Montes looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Rourke is really peppering his opponent's head with punches. Montes looks gassed! Montes takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
That has opened up Nash Montes's cut even more. Donk. Rourke catches Montes right on the button with a cross. Rourke scores with a decent looking hook. Rourke drops Montes with a beautiful combination! Montes stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Rourke is looking for the KO! Rourke feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Montes sprawling to the canvas! Montes rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Rourke finish him?!
Montes is rocked!
The cut above Nash Montes's eye is starting to cause him problems now. Rourke lands with a precision combination! Left, right, uppercut and Montes falls flat on his face, eyes wide open but he's out!
