PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Donald Summer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vel Sirra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sirra has chosen Omen by Prodigy as his entrance music. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Donald Summer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vel Sirra!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Luis Engracia and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Summer throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Sirra wants to clinch.
Sirra shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Summer defends it nicely.
A combination from Summer does no damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sirra doesn't manage to clinch there - Summer circles away.
No luck for Sirra with that takedown attempt.
Sirra lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Summer circles away quickly and effectively.
Sirra on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Sirra shoots for a takedown but Summer saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Donald Summer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vel Sirra.
The fight stays on the outside here - Sirra looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Summer gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Sirra to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Summer is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sirra is controlling him.
Sirra throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Summer works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Sirra has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Sirra trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Sirra prevents Summer from getting back to his feet.

Sirra throws and elbow that misses. Summer uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Sirra's guard. Nice move by Summer!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Summer accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sirra is on top in guard.
Sirra throws and elbow that misses. Summer uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Sirra's guard. Nice move by Summer!

Sirra is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Sirra has his foot on Summer's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Summer works his way back into a safe position though.
Summer working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Summer has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Summer thows a big elbow that misses.

Summer preventing the sweep.
Summer distracts Sirra with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Sirra manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Sirra jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Summer is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Summer and Sirra has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Sirra tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Sirra is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Summer is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Vel Sirra will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Sirra ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Sirra moves in looking to clinch but Summer pushes him off.

Sirra fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Summer avoids it really well and circles away.
Sirra tries to clinch but Summer is having none of it.

Summer swats away the attempt to clinch by Sirra.
Sirra shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Summer as he jumps to the side.
Summer falls off balance throwing a combination
and Sirra counters with a nice body kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Sirra tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Summer misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Sirra counters with a big head kick but Summer shrugs it off.
Donald Summer is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Sirra dives in and grabs Summer's left leg, looking for a takedown. Summer pushes down on Sirra's head and hops out.
Donald Summer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vel Sirra.
Nice sprawl there from Summer as Sirra shoots in.
Summer finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Summer circles away from the clinch attempt.

Sirra tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Summer swivels and escapes.
Sirra throws a head kick but Summer moves out of range.
Sirra throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Summer's waist but Summer gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sirra off to one side.
Sirra fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Summer looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Summer misses with a combination

so Sirra counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Sirra postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Summer is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Sirra, into his guard.
Summer stands up over Sirra, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Sirra is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Summer got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sirra has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Summer has managed to get both his arms back between Sirra's legs - danger averted.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vel Sirra showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Summer's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Sirra tries to score a power double leg takedown but Summer sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Sirra somewhat.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Sirra.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sirra uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Summer.
Sirra closes the distance and clinches up with Summer, looking for a takedown. Sirra pushes Summer against the cage but Summer circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Summer displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Sirra.
Summer throws a right and a left that Sirra avoids nicely.
Donald Summer has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Sirra tries to clinch there but Summer circles away.

Summer misses with a straight right.

and Sirra counters with a single leg into guard. Summer didn't expect that.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sirra is looking to advance position but Summer has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Summer with shots to the head and body - Sirra looks very uncomfortable down there.
Summer has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Sirra's face.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sirra regains half guard.
Summer lands with a punch from half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Sirra manages to get to full guard.
Sirra keeping full guard, as Summer tries to pass.
Summer lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Summer working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Vel Sirra is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Sirra is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Summer drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Sirra dives on top into guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Donald Summer showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Sirra has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
