Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Marcus Yates!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Szkorpion Szkorpion!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Wesley Smith and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yates misses the jab.

Yates instigates a clinch.

Yates tightens his grip and picks Szkorpion up, before dumping him to the ground. Szkorpion manages to land in guard.

Yates thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Szkorpion is looking to stand up but Yates isn't so interested in that idea.

Yates stands up from Szkorpion's guard - Yates perhaps looking for a knockout.

Yates gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Yates drags the fight down to the ground.
Yates might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Szkorpion looking to pass the guard.
Yates wants to stand up but Szkorpion is controlling him.

Szkorpion wants to stand but Yates has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Yates scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Szkorpion shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Yates as he avoids it easily.

It looks like Marcus Yates has been cut.
Szkorpion looks gassed!

Yates darts in and clinches Szkorpion up against the cage.

Szkorpion jumps guard and drags Yates to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Szkorpion is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Yates is controlling him.
Yates makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Yates gets to his feet. Szkorpion looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Yates has closed the distance and engaged Szkorpion in a clinch.
Szkorpion tries to pull guard but Yates holds him up against the cage and eventually Szkorpion drops back down to his feet.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Yates.
Yates drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Yates with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Yates is trying to drag Szkorpion to the mat but Szkorpion just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Yates is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Szkorpion pulls him back up using the underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marcus Yates. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Yates pulls guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Yates looking for a sweep. Not yet Yates, not yet.
Yates working a defensive guard but Szkorpion manages to pass into side control anyway.
Yates tries to buck Szkorpion off but Szkorpion is having none of it.

Szkorpion stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Yates closes the distance and clinches.

Yates pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Szkorpion shoots in looking for a takedown. Yates tries to sprawl out of it but Szkorpion keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Yates manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Yates scores a takedown into full mount!

Szkorpion is in all sorts of trouble here.
Szkorpion really wants to buck Yates off and get back to his feet.

Szkorpion regains half guard.
Yates prevents Szkorpion from standing back up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Szkorpion manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Szkorpion gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Yates decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Szkorpion's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Yates content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marcus Yates dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Marcus Yates's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Yates throws a series of punches but Szkorpion moves out of range.
Yates looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Marcus Yates is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Szkorpion tries to close the distance and clinch but Yates swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Yates closes the distance and clinches.

Yates is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Szkorpion can't fight it off and eventually Yates manages to take the fight to the floor. Szkorpion looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Yates decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Szkorpion, up you get!
Szkorpion fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Szkorpion tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Yates circles away from the clinch attempt.
Yates shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Szkorpion doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Yates counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Szkorpion's guard now.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Szkorpion wants to stand up but Yates is controlling him.
Szkorpion keeping moving, preventing Yates from controlling successfully.

Yates with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Yates is looking to work some ground and pound but Szkorpion has wrist control.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Yates counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Szkorpion wants to stand and escape but Yates is having none of it.

Yates drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Yates jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Yates stands up over Szkorpion, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Szkorpion is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Szkorpion wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Yates manages to pass to side control.
Yates landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Szkorpion gets full guard.
Marcus Yates overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Yates stands and steps away. Szkorpion gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Szkorpion moves in looking to clinch but Yates pushes him off.
Szkorpion tries a head kick but it misses.
Yates lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Szkorpion circles away quickly and effectively.
Yates walks into a left hand.
Yates will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Yates misses with a jab, cross combination.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Yates shoots in and bounces Szkorpion off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Szkorpion manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Yates manages to get himself to full guard.

Szkorpion stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Yates has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Szkorpion manages to get his head free but now Yates has transitioned to an armbar! Szkorpion grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Yates! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!
