Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Johnny Knoxfield! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Long! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Alec Ball and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice sprawl there from Long as Knoxfield shoots in. Knoxfield drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Long looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Knoxfield passes into half guard.
Long manages to get to full guard.
Long looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Long had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Knoxfield is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Long Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Knoxfield's back instead. Long working for the choke. Long looks gassed! Knoxfield tries to escape the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Long wants to control but Knoxfield manages to buck him off and is now in Long's guard! Nice work there by Knoxfield! Long is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Knoxfield wants to pass the guard but Long is keeping the position. Knoxfield wants to stand but Long has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Long wants to sweep but no luck.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Knoxfield tries to clinch up but Long circles away and keeps his distance. Long slips a jab and a cross from Knoxfield.
Knoxfield misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Knoxfield misses with a takedown attempt - Long sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johnny Knoxfield. That's going to take a lot out of him. Knoxfield changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Long looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Long is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Knoxfield not landing any meaningful shots this time. Long is pressing down on Knoxfield's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Knoxfield drops back looking for a leg! Long is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Long manages to kick Knoxfield off! Knoxfield jumps back into Long's guard. Long wants to sweep but no luck.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Knoxfield is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Knoxfield stopping the sweep attempt from Long. Long escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Knoxfield gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Knoxfield is in close to Long's body, working some short punches and elbows. Long isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Knoxfield stacks Long on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Knoxfield!
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Knoxfield is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Long knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Knoxfield working away. Long sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Knoxfield wants to pass to mount but Long is defending the position. Knoxfield moves into full mount! Long won't be happy about that! Long keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Long sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Johnny Knoxfield dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Knoxfield's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Knoxfield duly obliges. Knoxfield tries to close the distance and clinch up but Long swats him away and circles back towards the center. Long shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Knoxfield counters with an inside leg kick. Knoxfield shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Long is desperately trying to improve his position but Knoxfield has a good base and remains in mount. Knoxfield is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Long is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Long flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Knoxfield anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Long and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Knoxfield slips an arm under Long chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Knoxfield has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Knoxfield is squeezing on Long like an anaconda would it's prey. Long fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Johnny Knoxfield!
