PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Vance Vorhees (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richard Callaghan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vorhees comes to the cage accompanied by I Will Not Bow by Breaking Benjamin. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Vance Vorhees!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Richard Callaghan!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Summer Carpenter and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Callaghan tries to clinch there but Vorhees circles away.
Callaghan lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Vorhees circles away quickly and effectively.
Some bone on bone action there as Callaghan checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Callaghan takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Vorhees is looking to score with low kicks.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vorhees tries to land a leg kick but Callaghan saw it coming and moves away.
Vorhees will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Callaghan throws a big shot that misses.
Richard Callaghan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Callaghan takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Vorhees tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Callaghan was well out of range. Poor timing from Vorhees.
Nice takedown defense from Vorhees. No joy for Callaghan on that attempt.
Callaghan misses the shot to the body.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Callaghan wants to clinch.
Callaghan lands with a nice body punch.
Vorhees misses with a low kick.
Vorhees throws a leg kick but Callaghan sees it coming and checks it nicely.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vorhees does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Callaghan fails with the takedown.
Callaghan doesn't manage to clinch there - Vorhees circles away.
Callaghan throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Vorhees sees it coming and avoids it easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Vorhees goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Callaghan tries to close the distance and clinch but Vorhees swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Callaghan lands the left hand.
Callaghan tries to clinch there but Vorhees circles away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Vorhees throws a leg kick that misses.
Callaghan misses with the combination.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Richard Callaghan will probably get the nod.

Callaghan feints and then cracks Vorhees's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Vorhees down.
Callaghan swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
The fight stays on the outside here - Callaghan looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Callaghan tries to clinch there but Vorhees circles away.

Vorhees ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Vorhees keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Callaghan.
Vorhees misses with a leg kick
and Callaghan counters with an inside leg kick.
Callaghan misses with a two punch combination.
Vorhees looks to score with a jab to the body but Callaghan is just out of range.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

and Callaghan counters with a leg kick.
Callaghan shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Vorhees as he avoids it easily.
Callaghan lands a nice looking kick to the body. Vorhees takes a step back to recover.
Vorhees misses with a low kick.
Richard Callaghan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Vorhees throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vorhees scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Callaghan tries to clinch but Vorhees moves out of range.
Callaghan tries to close the distance and clinch up but Vorhees swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Callaghan moves in looking to clinch but Vorhees pushes him off.
A big left from Callaghan misses.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Vorhees keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Callaghan.
Callaghan throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Callaghan fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Good leg kick by Callaghan there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Callaghan misses with a double jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Richard Callaghan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Vorhees takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Callaghan throws a right and a left that Vorhees avoids nicely.
Vorhees tries to score with a low kick but Callaghan moves his leg out of the way.

Callaghan fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

and Vorhees counters with an inside leg kick.
Vorhees avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Vorhees takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
A big right from Callaghan misses.

Callaghan closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Vorhees is not content to let Callaghan control the position.

Callaghan is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Vorhees has managed to free his arm - good work.
Vorhees wants to control but Callaghan is keeping busy.
Vorhees flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Callaghan seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Vorhees does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vorhees is trying to maintain the position but Callaghan is very close to passing his half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Callaghan scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Richard Callaghan is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Vorhees tries to buck Callaghan off but Callaghan is having none of it.
Callaghan trying to control the action but Vorhees is working from the bottom.
Callaghan is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Vorhees will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Vance Vorhees has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Vorhees throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.

And that's the end of the fight!
Richard Callaghan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Callaghan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
