PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ralf Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Movado Cage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Movado Cage was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Movado Cage!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Paul Aken and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cage lands a jab to the nose.
A combination from Jones does no damage.
Jones showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Cage.
Jones is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Cage misses with a hook. Jones ducked under it nicely.
Cage throws a head kick but Jones moves out of range.
No joy there for Cage, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Cage tries to work over Jones's front leg with a kick but Jones checks it.
Cage stuns Jones with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Cage lands a glancing blow to the side of Jones's head.
Jones could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Jones works Cage's body with a nice hook.
Jones tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cage swivels and escapes.
Cage throws a series of punches but Jones avoids them all with ease.
Cage slips a jab and a cross from Jones.
Jones shoots in for a double leg but Cage sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Cage thows a body shot but no joy.
Cage slips a jab and a cross from Jones.

Cage fails with the takedown.

Cage fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Jones sprawls well initially but Cage persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Jones is looking to improve his position.
Cage missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Cage has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Jones slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Cage lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Jones has momentary wrist control but Cage slips an elbow through the middle.
Jones is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Jones is breathing heavily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Jones slips a jab and a cross from Cage.
Jones showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Cage.
Movado Cage seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cage tries for a takedown but Jones circles away easily
and Jones counters with a slapping leg kick.
Cage lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Jones circles away quickly and effectively.
Jones comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Cage paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Cage takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Cage is looking to clinch.
Cage is looking to clinch but Jones is avoiding it.
Jones has his takedown stuffed
and Cage counters with a straight right hand.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ralf Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jones shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Cage is wriggling around trying to escape.
Cage is trying to stand.
Cage tries to lock up and control but Jones gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Jones is landing with some decent strikes but Cage is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Cage holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Jones tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Jones throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.

Jones working some short elbows here. He postures up to throw some more ground and pound but Cage slips a leg through to get back to half guard. Nice work.
Cage gets full guard.
Cage looking for a sweep. Not yet Cage, not yet.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Cage keeping full guard, as Jones tries to pass.

Jones got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cage has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jones has managed to get both his arms back between Cage's legs - danger averted.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jones content to stall in guard here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Movado Cage dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Cage misses with a combination
and Jones makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Cage lands a really nice looking cross but Jones seems unphased.
Cage tries to clinch but Jones is having none of it.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Cage paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Cage throws a left and a right that both miss

and Jones counters with a shoot takedown. Cage fights it but they end up in guard.
Jones scoring with some ground and pound.
Jones postures up in Cage's guard and throws a big left but Cage blocks it.
Jones loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jones accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Jones throws a strike but Cage rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Cage throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Cage postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Jones wants to stand but Cage is controlling the position.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Jones scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Jones blocks a low kick nicely.

Cage drives through and clinches with Jones against the cage.
Jones is working for takedown but Cage is calmly controlling the position for now.

Cage jumps guard and drags Jones to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Jones wants to pass the guard but Cage is keeping the position.

Jones distracts Cage with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Cage is trying to control the position but Jones postures up.
Jones content to stall in guard here.
Jones throws and elbow that misses. Cage uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Jones's guard. Nice move by Cage!

Cage wanted to stand there but Jones had control of the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones is looking to stand up but Cage isn't so interested in that idea.
Jones knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cage on the ground.
Cage lands a couple of elbows.

Jones kicks Cage off and gets to his feet.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Jones.
Danga de danga de dang - Cage scores with a four punch combination!


It looks like Ralf Jones has been cut.
Some wild striking there from Cage.

Cage instigates a clinch.
Jones jumps guard but Cage stands there with Jones around his waist. Jones gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Jones tries for a takedown but Cage manages to get underhooks.
Cage tries to break free but Jones pushes him back against the cage.

Cage breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Cage lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Jones backs up against the cage.
Cage scores with a three punch combo!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cage throws a combination that misses

and Jones counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Jones.
Ralf Jones overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Cage is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Cage is nestled in close to Jones, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Jones is trying to stand up here but Cage is controlling him well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cage not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Cage thows a huge punch but Jones dodges it nicely.
Cage frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Cage is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Jones is surviving well by controlling Cage's body position as best he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Movado Cage will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The cut man is working on Ralf Jones's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Cage is trying hard to land a takedown here. Jones sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Jones scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Cage has hold of Jones's hands but Jones slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cage is pressing down on Jones's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jones missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Cage pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Cage fails with a takedown attempt.
Cage misses with the combination.
Ralf Jones is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Jones has taken the fight to the clinch.
Jones looking for a takedown.
Cage wants a takedown but no success here.
Ralf Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Movado Cage.
Jones tries to circle away but Cage has him pinned against the cage.
Cage stops a takedown attempt from Jones.
Jones drops down looking for an ankle pick but Cage pulls his leg out and moves away.
Jones has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Jones there as he acknowledges the shot.

Jones looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

Jones dodges the punch combination from Cage.
Cage tries to clinch but Jones moves out of range.
Cage is looking to score with low kicks.

Cage closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Jones is trying to stand back up but Cage is controlling him
Jones is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Cage is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Jones defends it well.
Jones wants to improve his position but Cage is controlling well.
Ralf Jones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Movado Cage is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Jones is working hard here to advance position.

Movado Cage comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Cage winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
