PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Rampage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Wong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Mike Rampage!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, James Wong!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Chris Edwards and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wong misses the jab.
Decent striking displayed by Rampage there.
Wong fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Mike Rampage seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rampage changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Wong tries to avoid it but Rampage manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Wong to the ground. Wong escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Rampage darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Rampage working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Rampage is trying to control. Wong wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Rampage throws a wild left hand from mount and Wong manages to wriggle his way back to half guard.
Wong wants to improve his position but Rampage is controlling well.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Wong is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Wong is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Rampage trying to control but Wong is having none of it.
Rampage lands with some strikes.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Rampage closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wong is looking to regain half guard here but Rampage keeps moving and retains side control.
Rampage creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Wong dodges the ground and pound from Rampage.
Rampage throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Wong works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

Rampage wants to pass the guard but Wong is keeping the position.

Rampage tries to free his leg and advance position but Wong is retaining full guard.
Rampage throws a strike but Wong rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Rampage manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Wong manages to get himself to full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rampage slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Rampage misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wong takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Wong is trying to get back to half guard.

Rampage is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Wong knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Rampage lands a few punches from side control.

Sloppy strikes there by Rampage.
Wong is not content to let Rampage control the position.
Wong defending against the ground and pound.
Rampage in side control, throwing shots but Wong defends.
Mike Rampage overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Wong tries to buck Rampage off but Rampage is having none of it.
Rampage throwing strikes but Wong manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

Wong has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Rampage fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Rampage shoots in for a takedown but Wong shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Wong.

Rampage shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Wong's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rampage is looking to advance position but Wong has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Wong looking to control but Rampage is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Rampage dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Wong throws the left hand but Rampage avoids the punch easily.

Wong drops Rampage with a beautiful combination! Rampage stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Wong is looking for the KO!


Rampage is rocked!


It looks like Mike Rampage has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rampage has a takedown stuffed.
Oh Rampage is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Rampage shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Rampage seems to have got his legs back now.
Rampage has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Wong avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Wong looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Rampage postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Rampage wants to control from the top but Wong keeps moving.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Wong has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rampage can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Rampage postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Rampage looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Rampage postures up in Wong's guard and throws a big left but Wong blocks it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Rampage throws a nice looking combination but Wong bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Nice shot lands for Wong.

Rampage shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Wong pinned against the cage. Wong gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Wong throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Wong misses the jab.
No luck for Rampage with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Rampage. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The fighters circle momentarily. Wong darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Wong cracks Rampage with a good jab.
James Wong seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Wong waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Rampage.
Wong rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Rampage moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Mike Rampage is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Wong misses with a body kick.

Wong drops Rampage with a beautiful combination! Rampage stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Wong is looking for the KO!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Wong jabs at Rampage's body.
Wong steps into range and unloads a brutal right left combo! Rampage is out on his feet! Wong sets himself and nearly takes Rampage's head off with a straight right, sending him crashing to the mat! Wow, that was nasty... but awesome! Wooo!
