Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kyle Hammersmith! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Vornado Vilmaro! The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Steve Erwin and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A chopping leg kick lands by Vilmaro. No luck for Vilmaro with that takedown attempt. Vilmaro looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Hammersmith working for a triangle but Vilmaro defends it easily.
Vilmaro drops back looking for a leg! Hammersmith is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hammersmith manages to kick Vilmaro off! Vilmaro jumps back into Hammersmith's guard. Hammersmith not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Hammersmith trying to hold on to Vilmaro's head to control him but Vilmaro postures up.
Vilmaro is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hammersmith defends it well. Hammersmith actively working from the bottom here. Hammersmith looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Vilmaro throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Hammersmith drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Vilmaro looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Hammersmith puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Hammersmith is working for a kimura but Vilmaro is defending it quite comfortably.

Vilmaro working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hammersmith doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hammersmith manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Hammersmith got a little sloppy there for a moment and Vilmaro has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hammersmith has managed to get both his arms back between Vilmaro's legs - danger averted. Vilmaro looks gassed! Vilmaro has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Hammersmith is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Vilmaro. Hammersmith tries for a kimura. Hammersmith shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Vilmaro napping and manages to drive through into side control! Vilmaro is not content to let Hammersmith control the position. Vilmaro wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Vilmaro gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Hammersmith wants to lay and pray for a moment but Vilmaro keeps working. Vilmaro wants to get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vilmaro slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Vilmaro bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hammersmith's guard. Vilmaro wants to control from the top but Hammersmith keeps moving. Hammersmith is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Vilmaro postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hammersmith is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Vilmaro, into his guard. Hammersmith trying to control but Vilmaro is working from the bottom.
