Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jose Faber! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Tom Piper! The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, James Atkins and Andrew Berry.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Faber swings for the body but Piper moves out of range.
Piper forces Faber back against the cage and clinches. Piper keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Faber's efforts to push away. A short right from Piper on the inside. Piper pulls Faber into guard.
Piper wants to get back to his feet but Faber is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Faber postures up.
Faber trying to stand up but can't free himself from Piper's guard. Faber tries to free his leg and advance position but Piper is retaining full guard. Piper is trying to control the position but Faber postures up. Faber slips nicely into half guard. Piper wants to get back to his feet.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Piper closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Faber trying to get back to full guard but Piper takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! Piper looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Piper looks gassed!
That's one minute gone in the round. Faber is wriggling around trying to escape.
Piper controlling the pace for now. Faber really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Piper really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Faber. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Piper looking to control but Faber is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Faber might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Faber is wriggling around trying to escape.
Piper wants to control the pace but Faber is squirming around nicely. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Faber is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Piper has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Faber's face.
Faber regains half guard. Faber wants to get back to his feet. The fighters are battling for position here. Faber manages to regain full guard. Nice work. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Faber had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Piper defends it easily. Piper thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Faber is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Piper frees his head nicely. Oh but Faber has switched to an armbar! Piper is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
