PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Elvis Spikers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zack Edwards (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Spikers has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Elvis Spikers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Zack Edwards!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, John Roberts and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spikers fails with an attempt to clinch.
Spikers is breathing heavily.
Edwards looks to land a combination but Spikers avoids it well.
Edwards on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Spikers throws a sloppy head kick and Edwards moves out of range easily.

Edwards has Spikers up against the cage in a clinch.
Edwards lands a right hand that snaps the head of Spikers backwards.
A hook to the body from Edwards.
Spikers prevents Edwards from breaking the clinch.
Spikers lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Edwards backwards.

Edwards breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Edwards lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Nice takedown defense from Spikers. No joy for Edwards on that attempt.
Spikers misses with a head kick.
Edwards throws a right hand that Spikers ducks under and follows up with a left that Spikers also avoids with ease.
Spikers stuffs the takedown.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Edwards lands a two punch combo.
Edwards throws a body kick that misses.
Some wild striking there from Edwards.

Spikers tries to keep at a distance but Edwards has taken the fight into the clinch.

Edwards is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Spikers can't fight it off and eventually Edwards manages to take the fight to the floor. Spikers looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Edwards postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Edwards in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Edwards must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Edwards trying to control but Spikers is working from the bottom.
Edwards wants to stand but Spikers has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Spikers is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Edwards seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Edwards has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Spikers is proving hard to escape from.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Spikers wants to sweep but no luck.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Edwards swinging wilding here.

Spikers rushes Edwards and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Edwards has had enough of the clinch but Spikers keeps him there for the moment.

Edwards breaks from the clinch.
Spikers throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Edwards misses with a two punch combination.
Spikers scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Spikers clinches but Edwards breaks the clinch

and Edwards counters by clinching up.

Edwards breaks from the clinch.
Edwards misses with an attempted mid kick.
Edwards rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Spikers moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Edwards drops Spikers with a beautiful combination! Spikers stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Edwards is looking for the KO!


Spikers is rocked!


It looks like Elvis Spikers has been cut.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A slapping body kick lands there for Edwards.
Oh Spikers is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Edwards has managed to clinch.
A hook to the body from Edwards.

Edwards jumps guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Edwards is on top in guard.
Edwards lands a couple of digs.
Spikers has momentary wrist control but Edwards slips an elbow through the middle.
Edwards working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Spikers's head.

Edwards stands and steps away. Spikers gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Edwards clinches up against the cage.
Spikers seems to have got his legs back now.
Spikers looking to stall.
Edwards lands a shot to the body.

Edwards manages to break the clinch.
Edwards misses with a two punch combination.
A left lands for Edwards.
Edwards ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Spikers moves away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Spikers tries to clinch up
enabling Edwards to counter with a crisp jab.
Some wild striking there from Edwards.
Spikers with a lazy takedown attempt

and Edwards counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Spikers is trying to stand.

Edwards decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Edwards misses with a wild combination.
Spikers circles away from the clinch attempt
and Spikers counters with a head kick. That will keep Edwards thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Edwards gets the takedown into side control.
Spikers is being controlled here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Edwards trying to control the position but Spikers is working away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zack Edwards dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Elvis Spikers's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Edwards swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
letting Spikers counter with a right hand.
Edwards thuds a left hand into Spikers's body.
Edwards connects with a nice cross there... Spikers is looking wobbly and Edwards recognises it - he's rushed in and lands two more brutal shots that send Spikers to the canvas, out cold! A brutal finish to the fight - Edwards jumps onto the cage to celebrate with the crowd!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:12 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Zack Edwards!
