4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cain Velasquez! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Paulo Santos and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! de Santos shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Velasquez's guard. de Santos got a little sloppy there for a moment and Velasquez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, de Santos has managed to get both his arms back between Velasquez's legs - danger averted. de Santos stands up from Velasquez's guard - de Santos perhaps looking for a knockout. de Santos dives in and grabs Velasquez's left leg, looking for a takedown. Velasquez pushes down on de Santos's head and hops out. Velasquez tries for a takedown but de Santos circles away easily and de Santos counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Velasquez! This has been an exciting period of action! Velasquez tries to hold on but de Santos postures up. de Santos content just to control the position here. Velasquez is desperately trying to improve his position but de Santos has a good base and remains in mount. Velasquez tries to hold on but de Santos pushes him away. de Santos prevents Velasquez from getting the reversal. de Santos controlling the position easily from mount. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Velasquez wants to control but de Santos is having none of it. Velasquez looks gassed! de Santos controlling from the full mount. Velasquez can't escape the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. de Santos's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Velasquez tries to hold on but de Santos pushes him away. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Velasquez tries to get back to half guard but can't. de Santos tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Velasquez swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing. de Santos controlling from mount. Velasquez is trying desperately to improve position. de Santos tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Bruno de Santos just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. de Santos closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. de Santos trying to control the pace. de Santos passes to side control. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Velasquez is looking for a sweep. de Santos stands up. de Santos scores a takedown into full mount! de Santos looking to control but Velasquez is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Bruno de Santos just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. de Santos gets a clinch. de Santos turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! de Santos tries to advance to mount but Velasquez denies him. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Bruno de Santos dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Velasquez with a lazy takedown attempt so de Santos counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Velasquez had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. de Santos defends it easily. de Santos advances to half guard. Velasquez wants to get back to his feet.
Well, if de Santos is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
de Santos decides to stand up. de Santos has taken the fight to the clinch.
Velasquez on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Velasquez tries to circle away but de Santos has him pinned against the cage. de Santos working Velasquez over with knees to the body. Velasquez drags the fight down to the ground.
Velasquez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. de Santos gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
That's one minute gone in the round. Velasquez bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in de Santos's guard. Velasquez missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. de Santos is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Velasquez is controlling him. Bruno de Santos overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. de Santos pushes Velasquez off and scrambles back to his feet.
Velasquez feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Velasquez throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Velasquez throwing strikes but missing. Velasquez prevents de Santos from getting back to his feet. Velasquez throws a big right hand that misses. de Santos wants to stand up but Velasquez is controlling him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Velasquez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. de Santos swivels though and keeps the full guard. Velasquez stops de Santos from standing up.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Velasquez with a poor takedown and de Santos counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Velasquez! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Velasquez keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Velasquez sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. The fighters are battling for position here. Velasquez manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Velasquez looking for a triangle here. de Santos is fighting it but it looks tight! Velasquez pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, de Santos is tapping out - this one is all over!
