PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Markus Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Miguel Lopez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Markus Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Miguel Lopez!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gracie closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Gracie looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Gracie swings around for an armbar but Lopez sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Gracie's guard.

Gracie is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Lopez defends well.
Lopez must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Gracie is looking for a triangle here but Lopez uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Gracie is looking to regain half guard here but Lopez keeps moving and retains side control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Gracie is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Lopez off and has taken his back!

Lopez is having to fend off submission attempts from Gracie, who is looking to sink in the choke. Gracie doesn't have the hooks in though and Lopez manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.

Lopez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Gracie bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Gracie goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Lopez rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Gracie's guard! Nice work there by Lopez!
Lopez wants to stand but Gracie is controlling his posture from full guard.

Lopez decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Gracie bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Gracie tries a head kick but it misses.
A jab from Lopez misses.
Lopez throws out a loose jab but Gracie uses good head movement to avoid it.
Lopez throws a shot from downtown. Gracie moves away and avoids it.

Gracie slips a jab from Lopez.
Lopez throws a jab but it's blocked by Gracie.
No joy there for Gracie, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Markus Gracie is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Gracie.

Gracie thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Lopez bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Lopez is breathing heavily.
Lopez moves into range and connects with a jab.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gracie bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Gracie takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
No luck for Gracie with that takedown attempt.
Lopez throws a jab when Gracie was well out of range.
Lopez throws an overhand right that lands on Gracie's shoulder, as Gracie tries to avoid the shot.
Gracie throws a sloppy head kick and Lopez moves out of range easily.
A head kick misses from Gracie.
Gracie blocks a jab.

Gracie drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Gracie tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gracie has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Miguel Lopez will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Gracie has gone for a leg lock! Lopez slips out almost immediately though and dives into Gracie's guard.

Lopez gets to his feet - Gracie follows without any prompting.
Miguel Lopez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Lopez throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Lopez might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Gracie ducks under a wild hook from Lopez.
Lopez throws a jab when Gracie was well out of range.
Gracie tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Lopez swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Markus Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gracie looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lopez is fending him off so far but Gracie persists. Nope, Lopez circles away and we're back to standing.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Lopez kicks Gracie off and gets back to his feet.
Lopez throws a good cross that connects.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Gracie.
Gracie tries to move into range but Lopez moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Lopez looks to throw the jab but Gracie is out of range.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Markus Gracie.
I think Gracie has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
