Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Yoshihiro Akiyama! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Igor Rogers! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Mauricio Rocha and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rogers tries to close the distance and clinch up but Akiyama swats him away and circles back towards the center. Rogers looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Akiyama shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rogers's guard. Akiyama looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Akiyama tries to free his leg and advance position but Rogers is retaining full guard. Akiyama landing some decent shots from guard. Akiyama stands up from Rogers's guard - Akiyama perhaps looking for a knockout. Akiyama fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Rogers, pushing him back against the cage. Akiyama is working for takedown but Rogers is calmly controlling the position for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Akiyama wants the takedown. Rogers is fighting it off but Akiyama persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Rogers's guard against the cage. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Akiyama tries to stand but Rogers is controlling from the bottom. Akiyama stands and steps away. Rogers gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Akiyama throws a sloppy head kick and Rogers moves out of range easily. Rogers has his takedown stuffed and Akiyama counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Akiyama controlling the action here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Akiyama escapes and gets back to his feet. Akiyama instigates a clinch. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. An uppercut to the body lands inside from Akiyama.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Akiyama scores with a shot to the side of Rogers's head. Akiyama has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Rogers is trying to keep an underhook but Akiyama manages to get the takedown into half guard. Akiyama seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Akiyama knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rogers on the ground. Akiyama stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Rogers to get to his feet. Akiyama shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Akiyama prevents Rogers from standing back up.
Still in half guard, Akiyama seems content to control. Akiyama missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Akiyama stalling. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Akiyama takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Akiyama pulls guard effortlessly. Akiyama lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Rogers! Akiyama lands a heavy elbow. The referee warns Rogers that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Akiyama landing strikes from the mount and Rogers is in trouble! Akiyama tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rogers is desperately trying to improve his position but Akiyama has a good base and remains in mount. Akiyama controlling the pace for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Yoshihiro Akiyama just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Rogers avoids the head kick by Akiyama.
Rogers misses with an uppercut. Akiyama saw that one coming. Akiyama shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Akiyama was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Rogers is trying desperately to improve position. Akiyama with shots to the head and body - Rogers looks very uncomfortable down there. Akiyama looking to control and managing it successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rogers tries to lock up and control but Akiyama gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Akiyama looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Rogers is desperately trying to improve his position but Akiyama has a good base and remains in mount.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Akiyama takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. A nice elbow there by Akiyama. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Yoshihiro Akiyama dominated that second round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!
Akiyama scores with a kick to the midsection. Akiyama lands with a thumping leg kick.
A left and a right from Akiyama both land. Nice combination. Crunch! Akiyama slams his shin into Rogers's torso. Akiyama scores with a shot to the body.
Akiyama looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Rogers! Akiyama sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Rogers can't escape the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. Akiyama looking to control and managing it successfully.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Yoshihiro Akiyama just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Rogers gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Akiyama to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Rogers keeping full guard, as Akiyama tries to pass. Yoshihiro Akiyama overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Akiyama controlling from the top position. Igor Rogers has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Akiyama throwing strikes but missing. Akiyama might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Akiyama throws a head kick that half lands.
Akiyama shoots in and bounces Rogers off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Rogers doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Rogers working for submissions but it's allowed Akiyama to get to half guard.
Akiyama decides to stand up.
And that's the end of the fight! Yoshihiro Akiyama showed his dominance in that final round. Well Akiyama has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
