PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brock Steel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roy Tavarin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Brock Steel has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Brock Steel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Roy Tavarin!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Hugh Johnson and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steel tries to clinch there but Tavarin circles away.
Steel bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Steel wants to clinch up but Tavarin keeps it at a distance.

Steel tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tavarin swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Steel doesn't manage to clinch there - Tavarin circles away.
Tavarin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Steel's waist but Steel gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Tavarin off to one side.
Steel tries a head kick but it misses.
Steel lands with a kick to the temple. Tavarin shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Tavarin looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Steel fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Tavarin looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Nice straight punches there by Steel. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Steel.
Steel dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Tavarin dives in and grabs Steel's left leg, looking for a takedown. Steel pushes down on Tavarin's head and hops out.
Brock Steel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Roy Tavarin.
Steel tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tavarin swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Brock Steel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Steel cracks Tavarin with a right hand to the side of the head.

Tavarin keeps control of Steel as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Steel swings away with an uppercut that misses.

With the fighters up against the cage, Steel throws an elbow but misses.
Steel misses with some punches.
Steel has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Steel misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Steel wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Tavarin.
Steel tries a body shot but Tavarin blocks it.
Tavarin blocks an elbow strike from Steel.
A frustrated look appears on Steel's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Steel swings wildly with an uppercut but Tavarin uses good head movement to avoid it.
Tavarin keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Steel's efforts to push away.
Steel has had enough of the clinch but Tavarin keeps him there for the moment.
Steel is trying to break the clinch but Tavarin is controlling him.
Steel tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Steel breaks from the clinch.
Steel tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tavarin swats him away and circles back towards the center.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Steel wants to break the clinch but can't.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Steel tries to circle away but Tavarin has him pinned against the cage.
Tavarin drops down looking for an ankle pick but Steel pulls his leg out and moves away.
Steel connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Tavarin avoids a punch combination nicely.
Tavarin circles away from the clinch attempt.
Tavarin throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Steel thows a body kick. Tavarin tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Steel throws a combination. Tavarin tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Tavarin.
Tavarin gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Steel is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Tavarin shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Steel napping and manages to drive through into side control!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Tavarin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Steel keeps working.
Steel is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brock Steel dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Roy Tavarin's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Excellent takedown into side control there by Tavarin.
Tavarin working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Steel is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Tavarin has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Tavarin tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Tavarin has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Steel is trying to get back to his feet.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Tavarin shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Steel's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Tavarin stays in close to Steel's body and controls the position.
Steel keeping moving, preventing Tavarin from controlling successfully.
Steel wants to stand up but Tavarin is controlling him.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Tavarin in particular looking to stall.

Tavarin moves into full mount! Steel won't be happy about that!
Steel squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

Tavarin has isolated one of Steel's arms. Steel looking to fight him off but Tavarin twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
