Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ryosuke Takahashi! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Gustavo Andrade! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Yukihiro Shimada.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Andrade lands with a slapping head kick.
It looks like Ryosuke Takahashi has been cut. Andrade forces Takahashi back against the cage and clinches. Takahashi tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Takahashi tries to pull guard but Andrade won't allow it.
Andrade gets control of Takahashi's arms and successfully pulls guard. Andrade will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Andrade lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Takahashi! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Takahashi tries to get back to half guard but can't. Takahashi sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Takahashi is looking for a sweep. Andrade is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Takahashi looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Andrade is looking to stall here but Takahashi recovers full guard. Takahashi is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Andrade got a little sloppy there for a moment and Takahashi has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Andrade has managed to get both his arms back between Takahashi's legs - danger averted. Andrade controlling from the top position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Let's hope that Andrade has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Takahashi working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Andrade doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Andrade manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Takahashi is breathing heavily. Takahashi escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Andrade gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Andrade is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Takahashi has his feet on Andrade's thighs here. He's pushed Andrade off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Andrade screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:02 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ryosuke Takahashi! Ryosuke Takahashi retains his middleweight title!
