PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jutta Urpilainen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Runcio Maloca (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jutta Urpilainen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Runcio Maloca!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Damien Edna and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Urpilainen clinches up with Maloca and pushes him back against the cage.
Urpilainen misses with a body punch.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Urpilainen has clasped his hands together around Maloca's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Urpilainen decides to stand back up.
Urpilainen throws a shot from downtown. Maloca moves away and avoids it.
Urpilainen swings for the body but Maloca moves out of range.

Urpilainen changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Maloca looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Urpilainen tries to move into full mount but can't pass Maloca's legs.
Urpilainen wants to control but Maloca is keeping him busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Maloca is trying to control Urpilainen's posture but Urpilainen avoids it.
Urpilainen moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Urpilainen laying and praying for a moment but Maloca takes advantage and regains half guard.
It looks like Urpilainen is going to stand back up.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Jutta Urpilainen just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Urpilainen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Maloca wants to hold on but Urpilainen pushes him away.

Urpilainen wants to control the pace but Maloca is squirming around nicely.

Urpilainen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Urpilainen has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Urpilainen working for a submission but Maloca is keeping him at bay.
Maloca tries to hold on but Urpilainen postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Urpilainen misses with a body shot.

Urpilainen shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Maloca napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Urpilainen misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Urpilainen works to advance to full mount. Maloca defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Maloca is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Urpilainen trying to control but Maloca is having none of it.
Maloca tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Urpilainen is looking for a kimura but Maloca is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Urpilainen to get the leverage.
Maloca tries to roll over but Urpilainen keeps him under control.
Well, if Urpilainen is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Urpilainen stands up from half guard.
Urpilainen pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Maloca avoids a punch combination nicely.
Urpilainen fails with an attempt to clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Urpilainen has a takedown stuffed.
Urpilainen misses with a double jab.
Urpilainen throws a nice looking combination but Maloca bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Urpilainen throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Maloca.
Urpilainen throws a hook but Maloca blocks it.
Urpilainen throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Maloca's waist but Maloca gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Urpilainen off to one side.
Urpilainen leaves Maloca with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

and Maloca counters with a shoot takedown. Urpilainen fights it but they end up in guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jutta Urpilainen. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Maloca postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Urpilainen is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Maloca, into his guard.

Urpilainen drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Maloca manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Urpilainen has Maloca in his guard.
Urpilainen is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Maloca is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Maloca is pushing down on Urpilainen's leg trying to pass to half guard. Urpilainen is fighting to maintain full guard but Maloca has managed to sneak the leg through.
Urpilainen wants to get back to full guard.
Maloca trying to control the action but Urpilainen is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Urpilainen manages to get to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jutta Urpilainen dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Maloca displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Urpilainen throws out the jab.

Urpilainen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Urpilainen scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Maloca?

Maloca has left one of his arms exposed and Urpilainen doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Maloca screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
