Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Andrey Fedorov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Garland Oars! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Sergei Dronov and Fedor Mirinova.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fedorov leaves Oars with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Fedorov feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Oars throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Oars looking for a guillotine here but Fedorov defends easily.
Fedorov chips away with some ground and pound. Fedorov slips nicely into half guard. Fedorov blocks the strikes from Oars.
Fedorov wants to stand up but Oars has a hold of him and won't allow it. Fedorov blocks the strikes from Oars.
Oars is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Fedorov pulls his head out easily. Fedorov tries to stand but can't do so whilst Oars controls his leg.
That's one minute gone in the round. Oars moves into full guard.
Fedorov wanted to stand there but Oars had control of the position. Oars trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Fedorov shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Oars is desperately trying to improve his position but Fedorov has a good base and remains in mount. Oars looks gassed!
That's two minutes gone in the round. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Fedorov lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Fedorov tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Oars is trying to escape the mount.
Fedorov working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Oars really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Fedorov in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Oars landing with some feeble shots from his back... He should probably try escaping the position instead. Oars is in all sorts of trouble here.
Fedorov blocks Oars's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. Oars is looking to improve his position but Fedorov isn't that keen on the idea. Fedorov is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Oars has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Oars tries to reverse the position but Fedorov maintains control. Fedorov working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Oars swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing. Oars can't escape the position.
Oars throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Fedorov scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Oars?
Oars sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Fedorov keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Fedorov missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Oars is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Fedorov pulls his head out easily. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Andrey Fedorov will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Fedorov throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Garland Oars seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Oars tries to keep at a distance but Fedorov has taken the fight into the clinch. Oars jumps into guard, dragging Fedorov to the mat.
Oars is looking for a triangle but Fedorov pushes his legs off easily.
Oars has an active guard here but Fedorov has managed to pass into half guard.
Fedorov lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Fedorov stalling. Fedorov is looking to take a break and control but Oars is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Fedorov sitting and controlling from the half guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fedorov looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Oars with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Oars scores with a few weak punches. Oars makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Oars. Oars working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Fedorov doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Fedorov manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Oars has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Oars has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Fedorov doesn't defend quickly enough and Oars has managed to lock this one up! Can Fedorov escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Oars on a fantastic submission victory.
