PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kurt Asle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ookami Taylor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ookami Taylor will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kurt Asle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ookami Taylor!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Tarja Halkonen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Taylor moves in looking to clinch but Asle pushes him off.
Asle shoots in but Taylor avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Taylor stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Taylor wants it to stay on the feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Asle.
Asle looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Taylor is avoiding damage well.
Asle will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Asle tries to advance to mount but can't.

Taylor is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Asle is controlling him well.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Taylor sneaks back into half guard.
Taylor is trying is best to control the position here.
Taylor is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Asle's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Asle's back!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Taylor gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Taylor apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Taylor should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Taylor closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Asle keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Taylor wants to pass to mount but Asle is defending the position.
Asle is trying is best to control the position here.

Taylor not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
The fighters are battling for position here. Asle manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Taylor throws a strike but Asle rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Asle is breathing heavily.
Taylor is looking to stand up but Asle isn't so interested in that idea.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Taylor with a poor takedown

and Asle counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Taylor is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Asle controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Taylor controls Asle momentarily but Asle frees himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Taylor can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Asle controls the pace.
Asle trying to control the position from guard on top but Taylor is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Taylor is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Asle is controlling him.
Taylor trying to keep a closed guard but Asle is proving a slippery customer.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Asle counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Asle.

Asle stays in close to Taylor's body and controls the position.
Taylor wants to sweep but no luck.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kurt Asle dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Taylor connects with a looping right hand.
Asle tries for a takedown but Taylor circles away easily

and Taylor counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Asle avoids the elbow strike from Taylor, against the cage.
Taylor is trying to break the clinch but Asle has him pressed against the cage.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Taylor.
Taylor throws a punch but it's blocked by Asle.
Asle blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Taylor jumps into guard, dragging Asle to the mat.
Taylor wants to stand but Asle is controlling the position.

Asle sitting in guard here, content to control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Taylor is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Taylor keeping moving, preventing Asle from controlling successfully.
Asle is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Taylor feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Kurt Asle overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Taylor throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Asle has momentary wrist control but Taylor slips an elbow through the middle.
Asle wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Ookami Taylor comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Taylor has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
